What is my 440 Six Pack engine worth?

Guys, question:

I'm contemplating selling the non numbers matching 440 out of my 70 to fund a 5.7 Hemi swap. But I need to know what it's worth.

I'll keep it short and sweet.

- 72 block, .030 over
- forged '70 crank and rods
- TRW 9:1 pistons (low compression, I know)
- 452 heads with hardended seats
- complete, functional Six Pack setup, out of a 70 B Body, with original breather assembly
- Comp Cams XE 268 camshaft
- Vintage Cal Custom valve covers, otherwise the rest of the accessories and covers are original.
- maybe 2000 miles since the rebuild, engine runs fine, reliable, but really needs a tune to wring out the most from it.

So guys, what's it worth? What would you sell it for?

just FYI here, but I doubt you get enough to pay for the 5.7 Swap out of it....

I understand that Cooter, but I'd still like a round about figure to ask for the thing. I don't really want the engine sitting around here if I could use the money to pay for part of the new engine transplant.

Thanks!

It's tough to say but I can try to give you a "ballpark" estimate. I bought a nearly new, super strong (10.5+:1) 68 440 a few months back for $1,400. It came with 906 heads, new KB pistons, new fuel pump, new oil pump, new hemi oil pan, new plugs, new plug wires, and a new Mopar electronic distributor that was already timed. A 72 block with 452 heads probably won't bring that much (but you never know!). The same guy was trying to sell the six pack that he had on it for $1,100. I'm not sure if he ever did sell it. I've seen six pack setups around the $1,000 mark (depending on originality and date codes) but I'm not familiar with the nuances of them.

I'm not sure of your exact plans but I have a 2006 5.7 Hemi with 30k miles that I'm looking to get rid of (sold the car I was gonna stick it in).

Troy, sounds like you got a pretty good deal.

I figure that a complete, 2k mile (documented) 440 with steel crank sholud be worth $1500.  6 pack setup with air cleaner should be worth $1000 atleast.  I would say $2000-$2500 is fair, since it is complete with brackets, pulleys, etc.  It will be MUCH easier to sell while it is in a running and driving car compared to already out and on the shop floor.

I feel that I did get a good deal (or I probably wouldn't have bought it). :D

But most people are very leery of purchasing a "used" engine. The exceptions would be knowing the seller personally so you'd know how it was built and how/how much it was used. I see newly built engines with no miles that don't sell - even at half the value of the parts/labor. There's also a large(r) number of people who won't want the six pack setup (like me) so, using your estimates, if you lop off the $1,000 for it you end up with $1,000-1,500 for just the engine (about what I said).

For the record...    I sold a built 440 carb to pan for $3500.00 last year.  It had been run about 5 hours or so...       I had also thrown in a used 4-speed and bellhousing...   all in all I was very happy with the deal...

Figure your engine about $2000 plus another $1000 for the six pack...        $3000 total on a good day.

No offense but anything over $2000 WITH the sixpack you better grab it and go

I bought a 505" RB minus carb, intake, and ignition for $3500 last summer, which I got to drive before it came out and probably didn't have 500 miles on it.

How far from Central Ohio are you? If it's close enough to pick up, for 2k I'd snag it.
