More K-frame questions, are they repairable??

This is from my project 73 charger with a big block engine. I took this to a local guy who said he would try to weld it for me. He took a look at it and said nope its not gonna work, best look for another. Both rear mounting points are eaten away pretty bad. Now this same guy has a salvage yard so I took a walk and found a 74 satellite and 73 charger both small block cars.
2 questions.

Is there a way to fix the one I have?
and
How difficult or possible to use a frame from a small block car?

Obviously its gonna be a job removing one from his cars and perhaps finding they are not much better, although they both look pretty solid from brief inspection.

Thanks,

Heath

I'd give Firm Feel a call. Maybe send them a description of the problem and a pic; see if they can fix it for you first. You might be money/time ahead with a repair but that's something you'll have to determine.

I would think that a good welded repair would be sufficient, I'd use steel that is several gauges thicker and weld it to the outside of the frame so as not to affect the ride height.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Could be repaired but i doubt firm feel would do it. They dont want rusty stuff, plus there EXPENSIVE. Granted you probably get what you pay for, but you can do some of the work yourself for alot less.

I had to reinforce my k-frame in that exact area because that is what happened.

Wound up buying a new k-frame from a member in az, had it reinforced (not by firm feel, by a shop) and put on the side for now. You can use a SB k-frame with the adapter mounts from schumacher.

Well then since I don't know anyone other than him to do the welding. Looks like I need to convince him to sell me a frame. I think hes hesitant that the 2 frames he has will fit due to the Big block small block difference. What would a reasonable amount be offer for him to remove one from his cars.

Don't have one for you however you can grab a small block and go to

Well it would seem I lucked out. I had a last minute thought before calling the scap metal guy. I called another contact who is doing work setting up a differential. He said he could do it :icon_smile_big:

So It gave me inspiration to start drilling the spot welds on the frame.

AmadeusCharger500

Can anyone tell me why this happened. Everything was going good and it just shattered on me.

Wicked72

Its hardened steel and its brittle. It probably hooked just right. :scratchchin:
