My HEMI dyno run!

My engine builder finally got my engine finished and we did a dyno run this afternoon! This is the numbers-matching engine from my '69 Charger R/T that is being restored and is getting close to being in paint.

The engine had over 80K miles on it and it had been sitting for over 30 years without being run sooooo.. a complete rebuild was in order. I had .030 over JE forged pistons (true 11 to 1 measured) installed, Manley H-Beam rods, Manley stainless steel valves, hardened valve seats, ARP-studs in the bottom end and ARP bolts for the heads, a custom grind as decided on by the builder and Comp Cams  Engineer Hydraulic roller cam with a complete kit including all new rocker arms and a custom rebuild of the original carbs by Dan DaVinci.

The engine rebuilders (Nickens Brothers Racing Engines) did a mild port and polish on the heads and port-matched the intake cleaning and smoothing the runners. and did a magnificent job with the rebuild.

I will let the numbers speak for themselves. It will idle down to 850rpm, no problem and the carbs were spot-on without any adjustment or jet changing after the rebuild. The jets are different than stock though. Notice how flat the torque curve is between 4000 and 6500 and the HP numbers were still climbing! I think 588HP will get me by on the street!

More pics.

Wayne was in charge of the rebuild and did most of the work!

just another dyno readout pic!  We are sure it will do 600HP at 7000rpm but, not running it up there and it is plenty good enough for me for the street.  Dan Davinci says 650 HP is easily reachable with a rat-roaster manifold and Holley carbs but, I am happy now! Everyone at Nickens Brothers and Dan says the numbers are all great for a street motor and are pleased with the outcome. So am I! Will make a beast of a street runner! I think this is very good power from a 432 cu. in. HEMI that will be very streetable!

By the way, this was on pump gas (unleaded premium) and the timing set at 30 degrees total timing as that was what it liked most! All advance in by 1400rpm.  It will have a complete MSD Digital 6 ignition when in the car.

I am also installing TTI polished ceramic coated w/ heat barrier headers and a complete 3" X-Pipe exhaust system on the car to let it breath.

Thats Fantastic !
Really good power, and looks like excellent Continuity on the build, which it deserves :2thumbs:
You should be very Happy.

Thanks, I think they did a great job!  They should though, Nickens Brothers had an exclusive contract to build Chrysler Corp. factory race team motors for about 10 years but that ended with the govt. buy-out program.  They have a beautiful facility with the best dyno room in the country. Their shop is a wonder to behold! So organized and you can eat off the floor as everything is so clean!  Really nice people too.  I am honored and proud to have a Nickens Brothers engine and DaVinci built carbs and this will only enhance the value of the car.

BSB67

Very nice.  Sounds like you had a great time too.  Doesn't get any better than that!

Those are excellent power numbers.  :2thumbs:

Can you post a detailed build sheet with specs ?

Sorry it took so long to answer but.....I have had a medical setback. Last Wed. i had a minor stroke and it left me hospitalized and hurting for a while. Plenty to go wrong and plenty to be thankful for and a few lingering problems! Weakness and uncoordinated on the left side and unsteady gait now but improving. Took a while to type this but getting better. DAMN,it is frustrating!

Anyway, the motor is only .030 oversized  to 432 cu. in. with a standard sized crankshaft. It has Manley H-Beam rods and Custom JE forged 11 to 1 (actual ratio) pistons with JE pins and caps. Manley stainless steel valves and a complete custom grind Comp Cams hydraulic roller setup including all hardware from pushrods to springs. Cannot give you the exact specs on the cam as I have not seen the spec sheet myself yet. Supposed to be very streetable yet give great power on the top end. It is a Nickens Brothers Racing Engine with Dan Davinci Carbs which is pretty exclusive company.

It will have a complete TTI header exhaust system with 3" tubes and an x-pipe to the rear to preserve power with a  complete MSD Digital 6 ignition system for reliability.   The original carbs were worked over by Dan Davinci and run separately on a test engine to dial them in and it turned out to be just right without any further modifications. Got lucky there and it ran just a little fat   which is what you want on a street motor.

It is ready and I am ready!

Looks like a nice build there. :2thumbs: I'm going to start my Hemibuild soon but I'm going singelcarb and aiming for high torque and less HP.

Thanks,   I am on the slow road to recovery though. The engine is a beast and it would be very frustrating to not be able to drive it.  And Per,  you should be able to produce great torque numbers with lower HP numbers easily.  I  probably would  have liked a lower HP number and a higher torque number too but it is what it is and the cam is very streetable. Nice idle and comes on like a banshee! Actually, a smoother idle than a number of wedge builds in this area.

firefighter3931

Best wishes for a speedy recovery !  :2thumbs:
