Any crazy taillight conversions?

I was thinking of what it would look like for taillights :scratchchin: to be swapped from a second gen to a 3rd or something like that. Has anyone ever seen any charger with something a little different along those lines?

Never have.  I'm having a hard time imagining it.

Well, there's a '68 Charger here with a crudely done, 1970 Ford Torino tail light conversion? Does that count?

there was a green ( sassy or lime ) 71 with home made tail lights as far I remember round ones on a metallic insert into the bumper. Dunno if you would call CRAZY to that. Not bad but not my taste. It was on the yard sale section at Carlisle 2008, but I was known about the car I think one year before on the net. It had some nice custom jobs on it.

Not a crazy conversion but on my old '68... I removed the center rings on all the lenses and drilled out the center and replaced the center with blue lenses and replaced the rings again.

I wonder if 69 tail lights could be used on a 71+...that might be kinda cool.  :shruggy:

I've converted my '71 R/T lights to LED, if that counts for anything.  :shruggy:

Okay.

'71 R/T tails...

...with lights on...

...and with brake lights on.  You can't tell in these pics, but these lights are so bright they almost hurt to look at 'em.

I bought 3 pairs of LED taillight assemblies meant for trailers, disassembled them, and put them behind the OEM Dodge taillight lenses.  In a trailer application, a single pair provides enough illumination for the trailer.  Three pairs of these makes for a REALLY bright tail light setup.  I also put spare LED's into the little "louvers" beside each lense, and put a spare white LED modules to use for reverse lights and illuminating the license plate.

The car is a long term project car, and is dissassembled, so I don't have any pics of the lights mounted...it'll be awhile before that happens.

I would like to see pictures of how you mounted them, they look great!

No pics of mounting, but it was simple.  I just used silicone based adhesive.  The LED's were mounted on plates that allowed for them to be easily glued into place after they were trimmed up to fit.  They're also lightweight, so the glue mounting strength is sufficient.  Wires were also glued into place (and out of sight).  The whole mod is reversable, too.  Just cut the LEDs off and put the old bulbs back in!

sounds great!  I've been contemplating picking up some of those trailer lights and doing a custom led setup on the standard '73 lenses.  If you take the trailer lights apart how possible is it to disassemble the leds and change the configuration?

If you're going to do that, you might as well build your LED boards from scratch.  The trailer units are waterproof, epoxy sealed boards.  You'd probably destroy them trying to deconstruct them beyond removing them from their casings.  I was lucky in that the boards were a perfect "plug in" size for my application.
