Finally, a place for my luggage. And only took 5 years and two racks.....>>>>>

And not the good kind of racks...  :nana:

Well, to say I'm excited would be an understatement.

After countless headaches with the vintage luggage rack I purchased sight unseen, and subsequent was turned into a rather expensive and oversized paperweight when the rechroming company lost the movable rear feet/posts, I bit the bullet and bought a PG Classics reproduction rack.

No problems at all with the fit or finish (other than one of the tubes had to be loosened and turned to get the screw hole straight).

Looks exactly like the vintage one side by side, except the PG example is on the car.  :icon_smile_big:

Sorry for the blurry pix, but after all day in the sun, the phone was acting up.

I really think it sets her off, and since she is coded for it, I'm happy.

I've already had the inevitable, "why would you put one back on there?", question though.  :slap: :smilielol:

Still hope to one day have a spare deck lid with a Go-Wing, and then save the rack lid for shows where codes and numbers count.

Thanks for looking.

Good going Johnny, looks good... Smitty called me earlier to ask about it and mentioned he was welcome to look at the decklid I have with the luggage rack on it (guess I can't use it now since I have two cars with those short decklids..  :icon_smile_big: ). But, alas, looks like you two figured it out...... Nice to see the ole' girl out and about.. One day you need to come over so I we can visit, you see the new head of cattle I have in the mopar-barn and take some more cool pictures of your v-code and my Daytona together...

Is the car going to be over there a while or you going back home with it today?

Get the vinyl top on and you'll be really getting close to "finishing" her off..........

Looks nice! Got any pics from inside the lid on how they mount? Is there any reinforcement to help handle the load it would get? I had one on my TR-4, it came in handy on that little car.  :2thumbs:

B5, I'll snap a pic today of the inside of the lid.

Chrysler kind of screwed the pooch with their attachment design, as four out of the six mounting points are blind holes.

Luckily the previous owner who removed the rack simply bondo'd over five of the six plugs that are crimped into the deck lid itself for the screws to go in to.

Two were super simple (they were the exposed ones), and that allowed us a reference point to track down the other plugs.

The two for the positionable feet were the hardest, but I had remembered that all the pix I'd seen of Chargers with racks had those feet facing in and towards the nose of the car at a 45° angle.

We lucked out, and were only a fraction of an inch off on one (it later was found to spin though), but found out the other one was MIA.

So it looks like it'll be rather involved to fix those last two.

There doesn't seem to be any reinforcement to the lid itself though.

So they use the kinda "rivet" nuts like are used in 71 up rear view side windows. (They attach to the sheet metal)  :scratchchin: They give the car an "Old School" kinda "Touring" look I like. (Jag's had them on the old XKE's)  :2thumbs:

Interesting. I've never seen a Charger with a luggage rack before.  :2thumbs:

I find it funny as to why a car with such a big trunk needed a rack to fit more on it

My 71 Came with a luggage rack also, It needs work so I am using a rust free trunklid and will some day get it fixed up. Before I changed decklids I had a few people ask me why there would be a luggage rack on a muscle car? I told them all because they could???

I had some folks ask me why I put a Trailer hitch on my Charger. My response was, because I can. Truth was, I did not have a truck at the time to pull my 18 foot ski boat, the Charger pulled it effortless.
