69 Charger, 8 3/4 sur grip 489 case 323 gears. the vent tube (bolt) is new but sitting exposed for a few years. I 'm losing oil out the top of the vent, enough to cover the pumpkin and drip on the ground. I filled it just below the filler plug and when i pull the plug i get a vacuum sound. I removed the vent bolt seem ok, took it apart and cleaned it, installed and the same thing happening. The vent has a spring and a rubber disk that moves up and down to release pressure and vacuum build up, so not sure if its sticking?

any suggestion appreciated.

The vent has a check valve in it, so when heat expands the air in the axle, it can get out but cannot return when it cools. Returning air would bring moisture in with it, and condensation. If you hear a vacuum, that means it's working as intended.

Oil venting may indicate that you already have significant water in the axle. If you haven't recently, drain and be certain it's all dry in there. Otherwise, there may be a baffle over the bottom of the vent bolt that has fallen off.

there is no baffle under  the vent. fluid level shoud be approx 1/2 to 3/4" below the fill point.

my thoughts is ,  If you have a leak it's one of 2 things - either to much fluid or it's running hot and causing the fluid to rise and/or boil/foam up  so to speak.

I guess the wrong type/weight of fluid could also cause it to foam up

or you just have a bad vent( doubt it though)

Did you seal the threads when you installed it? Mine leaked a fine mist of oil on my rear bumper until I used some teflon tape on the threads.
