Just found this out during one of my useless and random internet searches. Formed in 1969 as one of the few that have had the same members from the get-go. Billy Gibbons is a rock genius IMO. :2thumbs:

"Rythmeen" from 96 (was it THAT long ago !?) was there best releases IMO, and most people have never heard of it. They got tons of air in the 80's with "that sound", but there best stuff is earlier and later. Love that house band from TX.

I spend oh so many hours with ZZ Top stuffed in my walkman back in the day that I am amazed that the Tapes didn't completely wear out.  :2thumbs:

I missed out seeing them in concert back in about 86 and haven't really had an opportunity since. The mid 80s was their carpeted, swivel guitar stage.

One of my favorite ZZ Top memories isn't seeing them live but instead at one of the earliest Mopar Nationals, the first year it was held in Indy (around 84??).  Anyway, I remember standing on the motel balcony one evening watching the sun go down and gawking at the car sin the parking lot when I heard the unmistakable sound of a blown engine whining. As the car came around the corner to go down the little straightaway of parking lot that my balcony overlooked, the guys in the car (a 70 Challenger) slipped a cassette into the deck and as they idled by with the blower whining they had "Legs" just cranked!  It was the perfect song for a perfect moment and to this day whenever I hear that tune it transports me back to that instant in time a couple of decades and a bit ago.

I recently saw them in concert and couldn't believe how many songs I knew, but didn't realize were from ZZ Top.

Probably one of the best bands I've seen in concert, since they sound and play live just like their recordings (a lot of bands don't)

Vivid memories seeing them in April 77 just after the release of the Tejas disk; tracks from Fandango still made up a large part of the setlist :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:

A friend of mine was the sound engineer at the Omni in Houston. One day, he was sitting on the front of the stage working on a microphone. Billy Gibbons, who was a good friend, plopped down next to him and said "ZZ Top". He said "what?". Billy said "ZZ Top, what do you think?". He said "not bad" and the next thing he knew, no more Moving Sidewalks, just ZZ Top. Interesting story anyway.

Bob T

Billy Gibbons is an absolute genuis and a legendary guitar player, he was out here at a show last year as guest of honour with Pete Chapouris. They did a presentation on Billys car that Pete had built and later he had a jam with the band at the after dinner party.
Huge sound for a 3 piece, and the songs they were doing back in the 70's were just well crafted tunes that still stack up at the top of the pile compared with the rubbish out there today.
Probably Tejas and Deguello my favourite albums, im a novice guitar player but man, I want to get some of those licks down. Just got back from Babys . nice

Speaking of ZZ Top, check out this psycho on the drums in this "Sharp Dressed Man" cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItZyaOlrb7E

He makes Frank Beard look even more phlegmatic, if that's even possible.

Bob T

Why , yes bull, the drummer's hair was also working the high hat between his " wheel of fortune" routine.
Apart from the Murph & the Magictones suits, not bad. I will send it to a drummer friend of mine to polish his act up
;D
good find
