Stripped bolt

I have a rounded off water pump bolt.  I think it's the same as the one in this thread:
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,31401.0.html

I also have the sockets mentioned in the thread for extracting rounded off bolts as well.  Nothing seems to work.  I brought it to my mechanic and he couldn't get the bolt to torque at all...meaning it's seized in the water pump bolt hole.  He told me to try heat and vice grips which I haven't tried yet.  I was just thinking of cutting the head off and removing the water pump.  Has anyone else tried this?  What's my best option?  Thanks.

I heard someone on this or 66-67 Charger say beeswax...warmed and let drip into the bolt area...not sure how this would effect the part your working on is the issue. Will check for post.

:iagree: I heard that also. Never tried it though.

Heat and vise grips usually works for me, just be careful of any seals or gaskets nearby that you can damage.

Could pick up a set of "Grabit" sockets through Sears. They're supposed to be able to remove rounded off bolts etc.   :shruggy:

Can you grind or torch off the head?  Then pull the pump and unscrew the headless stud/shaft.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Thats what I was thinking too. Worth a shot.

Get it really hot with a torch and quickly lock on vise-grips and try again, think about just removing the whole housing first? (then you could soak it in PB Blaster)  :scratchchin:

:iagree: but, once the water pump is removed, weld another bolt to the headless bolt just incase the old bolt doesn't turn
Make it idiot proof, and somebody will make a better idiot!

If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid!

are you sure you are turning it the right direction?........

okay, how about this...soak in pb blaster overnite...if it still won't budge, you may have to grind off the head of the bolt, remove pump, then pb blast the remaining stud...
