It's been over four years since I took her apart to get painted. Paying for part of my son's college education put a stop to the project for a bit.
First pic she's headed to the body shop, check out my strap-on gas tank.
Second pic in the shop, very little rust for a new england car.
Third pic leaving the shop.

I ended up having a problem with the paint called lifting. You could see a slight distortion in the paint almost like blotches. I ended up letting the car sit for almost two years to let the paint fully cure. i started wet sanding it last spring then didn't start again and finish until last winter.
first pic, another leaving the body shop 4 years ago.
second pic, wet sanding in my shop
third pic, all sanded and waxed. Started on the reassembly process

I'm about to install two new wiring harnesses in the engine bay. Never done this before, it's a bit intimidating. The amount of mickey mouse wiring currently in the engine bay is scary.
first pic, another finally finished the effing sanding shot
second pic, currently wotking under the dash
third pic, this weekends project.

Was hoping to be ready for Carlisle but I already know I'll be taking the 72.

Nice!!

Looks like you got the cutting and buffing done as you can see the compound splatter under the hood. That my very favorite part! I love sitting at awkward angles with compound slinging around going all over you. Ahhhh!

Tom, stop by some weekend. Tell your wife that I need help with a six-pack project :D
Jim, if you want to bring your car down sometime and use my shop for a few days help yourself. I actually installed the forward light harness tonight. Wasn't as difficult as I envisioned, I'm doing the engine wiring harness tomorrow night. With all the hacked and spliced wiring in the engine bay it will be interesting to see if it starts after I install the new harness.

Latest round of fun.
I have it almost done, took a mini test drive Monday, with the real bucket seat this time. After much though i decided to go with the blacked out grille. another member did his that way and I really like it. Otherwise there just seemed to be too much chrome on the front. The grille surrounds were damaged by someone with a large drill with no pilot hole when they must have installed some fog lights in the past. I looked for some at Carlisle and found one in worst shape than mine for $499.00 (just one, not a set). So I ended up refinishing mine.

Another problem was I paid to have the front end rebuilt 9 years ago, there were some left over parts they said they didn't need because I had the upper control arms replaced a few years earlier. While working under the car I noticed a ruptured grease boot on the passenger side knuckle arm  :scratchchin: :scratchchin: I dug out the box of unneeded parts and found both knuckle arms still in the box. This was a "friend" that I trusted to do the job right. Anyway, had to replace them myself.

I installed Eastwood sound deadening and heat shield. I left one small area of the firewall unprotected. 50º-60º difference with the Eastwood product. I had to make a custom roller since there is hardly a flat area on the interior of the car.
I'm thinking of putting an additional layer on the firewall since it still got to 130º.

Thanks guys
Cody, since I was a teenager I always liked the American Racing mags. Must remind me of the girls I use to date in high school. Not the highest quality, but good looking and cheap :coolgleamA:
Eric, we'll be cruising with the 71 on the Mopart's cruise next June.
Jim, MoparFest was two months ago  They changed the date from September to June and didn't bother telling anyone, maybe 100 cars in the show field.
Tom, plan on a Kangamangus cruise in a few weeks. There's also a nice little car show 10/9 at the Sandwich Fair, let me know if your interested. NH Mopar Fan and his wife are going, they're probably going to hog all the first place Mopar trophies again.
