just picked up a 71 HP2 440 almost complete besides carb. looks in decent shape just alittle greasy. was sitting inside for 20 years or so until i picked it up don't know if it was bored out ever have to go to work and get my calipers to measure this week. when i measure the stock diameter should read 4.320'' and 3.750'' stroke right? motor spins freely have the heads off no pitts or rust on the walls. cam and cyl walls have light coating of  oil on them still so it shouldn't need bored out or if it does not much at all. now my plans for this motor is to just freshen it up to stock form to be reliable for now until i have the money to go all out. maybe add a bigger cam for it but not much else unless its cheap. i got a  edelbrock RPM intake MSD 6al2 ignition and dist and a proform 750 carb i have laying around i'll probably end up putting on it. my questions is what's the best way to go for rebuilding it i'm thinking send the block to get checked then cleaned up if need any boring once that's done just get a basic rebuild kit something like this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEM-MHP158-300/        or are there better kits to get? if so what kind what type of pistons should i go with flat top, dome, ect this is my first rebuild so i'll be asking some questions on it.

When are you planning to go all out?
IMO There is no use doing it twice, you should put that "freshen up'' money towards the real project your after.

Do your self a favor...get a Mopar Performance B RB book, there not very much money (Mancini has them) read it, you will be be glad you did. It covers all of the aspects of what you are about to do. Then with the gang here to "fine tune" your build you will be all set! Good Luck!  :2thumbs:
