72 Rallye Charger rust bucket restore

I'm starting the repair of this car for a friend so I can get some Nova parts from him. This wont be a concourse restoration by any means but I hope to have it satisfactory enough for a good driver.  Its rusted to hell and back after sitting in a field for the last 8 years.  I'm sure I'll have lots of questions being my first dive into mopars.  I'll start with some pictures.



Here it is sitting in my messy garage.



Not a mopar guy but I guess this is special.



The firewall is rusted through in many places.



Passenger side.



Driver side behind booster.



I guess it had two fender tags.



Looking into driver side through the rust hole.



Fred would be proud.





Amazingly the trunk does not need replaced.



But its got a hole here.



And a little fun today because I was bored.  The car needs sandblasted before I really start welding on anything but what the hey.







And lastly I sprayed some phosphoric acid on to see how it will work with removing rust.  I'm afraid I'll come back to a pile of rusty metal and no car though.

Seriously, nobody loves 1972 Charger Rallyes more than me.  I'm not sure that car can be saved, but I applaud you for trying.    If you need production figures or decoding help, just let me know.

I hope those Nova parts are gold plated !

it can be saved.. but man.. you are going to spend a bundle on it!  got any stock in AMD? you should buy some to help pay you back when you are done

Wow. That is going to be quite the undertaking. I'd think he would do better parting out what is left of that one and buying something in a little better shape. What kind of Nova parts would make you want to tackle this? Yenko parts perhaps?

I can think of a lot of nice driver '71 - '74 Charger's that are for sale for less then what your going to spend in parts and time for that car. Good luck with your efforts.

This will be a slow project but every week I should have an update.  The phosphoric acid isn't eating the rust as fast as I would like, probably seek other means of removing the nasty. 

Now what is an "RR Speaker"?  its some knob on the dash.

get a sandblaster!! The will help get rid of the rust in seconds! I will be selling many parts off my charger if your interested. windows (maybe), front fenders, fender markers, hood, headlight stuff. let me know!

Sandblaster I have, time I do not.  Right now I could be out working on the Nova or the Charger, but no I have online classes to tend to.    

Oh and the Nova parts are not gold plated nor are they Yenko parts.  My car is simply a 73 Nova that was a 6 cyl car.  Nothing special.

I had a 73 Nova in 1983, 350 - 4 with 3 speed on the floor posi , bench seats rubber floor mats. It was a fun car a traded a 75.00 Pinto for (the pinto was better on gas).  I could care less and drove it until I totaled it in middle of winter when someone backed out in front of me during a snowstorm. Only Chevy I ever owned. Only other ford I have owned was a Maverick Grabber 302 4 speed that I bought and sold when I went in Air Force, Mopars since.

340 car, Does it have the original engine? And the RR Speaker should be for rear speaker control.
