I just bought a really solid 72 SE Charger and I want to get rid of the small quarter window look.   I was told I just have to drill out some spot welds and get rid of the plug incert they used.   MY QUESTION IS:   How do I entend the drip edge for the chrome molding???

Anybody done this?

I want to do the same thing I have never done it but have a friend who did it I heard all you do is get rid of the spot welds and knock out the plug. Then you need to lengthen the drip rail, and find regular 71-72 Charger drip rail mouldings. You will also need regular 71-72 sail panels let me know how it goes.  :2thumbs:
To lengthen the drip rail you will need to either fab something up yourself, or find a donor car.

easier to sell what you got and just buy the type that you want if you ask me.  dependent upon the condition of your car, i would think about it.  got any pics of your car?

The guys over at 1971-1974dodgecharger.com can answer that exactly. There are a lot of '72 SE owners over there. I used to own one as well. I ended up selling mine.

Be very careful removing the SE small window parts.

I might buy the parts from you if they survive removal.

I'll need the plugs, exterior window trim, interior sail panel trim, sail panel SE emblems and scripts...

And the short drip rail moldings...

And the vinyl top moldings...

And anything else associated with the small 72 SE quarter windows...

I looked everything over today and I dont think it'll be that bad of job other than the drip edge part.....................Thats got me alittle stumped.   Thanks for the help.

If you end up doing this, take lots of pics.  This would be a good 'how to' thread.

Some of us with SEs might consider doing the same thing.

as I usally post my two cents...

if you don't want a 72/74 SE, get sell the SE and get a hardtop.

sorry because I'm being so honest. Some other could love that quarter window setup, and hardtops are still plenty around on same or similar conditions that your SE ones.

The job and interchange parts cost could be invested on the righ deal with the plus is a RIGHT deal

Do you have all of the parts you need to convert to the hardtop?  I have a 1972 Hardtop that I am taking apart and I do not need any of the sheet metal around the two quarter windows.  I have all the regulators for the glass.  The drip rail sections are in tack and solid.  I could cut out both sides for you to fabricate back into place.  I could actually cut the whole roof with a-pillars and c-pillars away and ship it to you as one piece.  I basically have everything you would need to but the car back together as a hard top.  I have not converted an SE to a hardtop, but if you were to do it, I would think you would need all of the stuff I have.

Ok,  Basically heres what I've got going.  I bought a regular 72 Charger about four years ago,  if any of you have ever worked on a rusty michigan car you know what Im dealing with............rust in places you cant even see till the cars 100% tore apart.   So, I have a rusty car with all its pieces and a few pretty cool options then I find a rolling shell thats about 95% tore apart but is a solid california car...............buts an SE.  Personally,  Im not to crazy about the SE's and thats why I want to use my first car as a parts car and put all my parts on this SE.   I also have a 71 superbee that was hit by a train back in 76 which will render a few parts....................but not many!

So that my story.      Just figured this had been done before.
