Thanks for the prompt response.. I am ready to buy it now for Birthday gift for Brother in-law and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want it to be a surprise for my brother in-law so i wont let him know anything about it until it gets delivered to him, i am sure he will be more than happy with it. I insisted on PayPal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address and the price so i can make the payments asap for it and pls if you don't have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through. I have a pick up agent that will come and pick it up after i have made the payments...Thanks!!

Did a quick Google search and got this:

Link has been pulled already but luckily Google caches it.

Too many red flags in that response for me any way. There's a difference between bad English (ie uneducated) and foreign English. The inconsistent use of capitalization is another. I'm usually pretty good at spotting scams/spammers but a few seconds on Google will usually confirm my suspicions.

Thanks troy  , red flags for sure .  I did not send him anymore info . I just couldnt figure out how he could scam me by getting my pay pal info to send me money  ?  I always run from anything that starts out i am over seas  .

Thats an obvious scam of some kind, but I dont understand how they can scam you by just giving your paypal address. In most cases its just a persons email address anyway.
Maybe the scam has a few more steps to it once he hooks someone??
Maybe send him an email asking how the rest of the scam is supposed to work?

A response of "Have your pick up agent bring cash so you won't have hotel bills to pay while your payment clears the bank" will eliminate all scammers.

He'll put a claim in with paypal saying you never shipped. For paypals buyer/seller protection to cover the transaction, you need a tracking # that can be looked up ONLINE. Hard to get one of those from a transporter. I'm betting even harder from his transporter. Receipts for shipping do not count...they are worthless.
They will side with him on the claim and take the money back. You lose the car and the money.
Paypal is not as safe as they claim. I've learned the hard way myself. They are also one of the hardest company's to get to see reason. If you don't follow there HUGE User Agreement to the letter...you lose.

Or, it's just a ploy to get a real, valid email address to sell. Most of the time these sorts of plans never involve actually purchasing anything. I had several ads on Craigslist a while back and I bet 9 out of 10 were spam/scam responses.

If the person has access to someone elses account they can transfer money then the real account owner says thier account got hacked and paypal will take it back.

Tell him to send it Western Union and you will go pick up the cash.

You don't even need to read past "Birthday gift for Brother in-law" IMO. Who would ever spend $4500 on their brother-in-law? :slap:

Any time somebody needs or wants to send money through PayPal, send them an invoice instead of sharing your PP email address...they can use your PP email to set up a shill account.

I'd be really interested in find out how this works as well. I have a paypal account, but have never used it.

This is obviously more crap from our wonderful friends in Nigeria. I really doubt if they would actually take the
car. The scam would somehow involve money transfer way before that.

The only thing I can think of is that its a twist on the old scan, where he will somehow offer to pay you more than you are asking,
then will want you to reimburse him for overage. That usually involves the "Shipping agent" angle. Maybe he uses a legitimate
Paypal account (that he has stolen in another scam), to pay you, then asks for a non-paypal form of reimbursement. When the
real owner of the account notifies Paypal, they take back the money, and the scammer gets the "overpayment" that he gets
from you via money order, wire transfer, etc.

If they can easily use your Paypal email to set up a shill account, then the whole Paypal payment model would collapse, so I
just dont see how they can use it. Besides, they could easily get tons of Paypal account emails by just buying something small on ebay,
or scanning the internet, where many people openly post their Paypal emails (Moparts for example).

Never sell anything without tracking numbers through PayPal. USPS / UPS / FedEx tracking numbers = you win any dispute in PayPal if they say it wasn't delivered.

Cash / wire money or no car.

I simply don't get some... how you can be scammed on this... even if he opens a dispute because "never delivered" you won't be able to shipp anything without get the money on your account, sooo you could simply testify, I NEVER DELIVERED BECAUSE NEVER GOT THE MONEY... or something like that

Yes, there has got to be another angle on this.

It's like many scam emails I get where they just want your name and address.
What can they really do with that? Is it just to sell the info?
