Getting crazy trying to get the doorweatherstriping in place. Looks like it would be much easier to mount them with the door of,
laying down. How do you hold it in place while you mount them all around? Those so called clips doesn't help either, they don't stay in the holes and they are not all perfectly placed. :brickwall: Need some help here.

When the clips alone won't hold it I've used 3m black weatherstripping adhesive. Available at almost any parts store here, where you are I'm not so sure though. Then while the adhesive sets up I use painters tape to hold it in place.

Per,

What he said!  If you can't get this where you are I could send you a tube. Let me know.

Thanks guys  Will give it a shot tomorrow. BTW, why are the clips there at all since they don't stay in anyway or am I doing something wrong?

wont hold ! hmm did you press them in tight !! they click once ! & its tightish  , the press directly on the back of the  clip ,  with a plastic windshield push stick  or similar then it will click tight !!  then no coming off !  unless they have changed the type of clips in the ones you have !  :scratchchin: , need to look at the way the clip is pointing also , that dictates how to press !

I just put mine on this past weekend -1 hour for first door - 5 minutes for second.  My doors are on my car.

Start with the flat piece by the jam - screw it into the vent window frame.  The pre-installed clips install easier from this direction.  Push on the molding right where the clip is and insert the clip tip into its designated hole. The clip should be pointing down at this point so if you pull slightly on the weatherstripping just below - it holds the clip in place.  Then push firmly right over the clip with the blunt side of a small screwdriver and you'll here the back side (preforated side snap in.  Give it a slight tug to make sure it stayed in.  Follow in the same direction all around the door.

Good Luck

What companies weatherstripping are you using? Some just don't have the right sized clips.

Year one is a distributor, they don make anything. The big 3 weatherstripping are Steele rubber, soffseal and metro. Some companies have much better products than others.

Oops - then I can't help you because I tossed the bags they came in.

ok got the Metro  weather strips from yearone !  they were /are best i have ever seen !! look as good if not better that the factory  , really well made  fit exact  !  until you try to close the door , yeah yeah i know that you thinking new rubbers , need to compress a little , yeah true ! no way these are going to compress enough if you look at metro & the factory the metro are i would say too big ! & the rubber too dense ,  awesome product  & deffo no leaks i'm thinking , but even after having the doors shut for a year , still the same ! got to really slam the door shut , to a point ,  the slamming shut even broke the vent window botton adjust meant guide bracket ! even after a year tried to adjust the doors glass & doors  , so i would not have to slam hard ! to shut the doors , but by the time i had finished the gaps were soo bad looked like it had been jumped in DOH !  in all fairness i did get the doors to close with  just a light slam , but they would still stick out too far , even adjusting the latches & stuff , drove my self nutts :brickwall: :horse: :cryin: :shortbus: doors latches , glass over & over ! any one who has put all the side glass in their charger & adjusted it from scratch ! knows its a time consuming job ,  so in the end , ripped all the new weatherstrips out  , re adjusted the door gaps to how i wanted & as good as i could get ! cleaned up the original weatherstrips ! they looked almost new anyway with some armourall on them ! ! fitted them with new clips ! & what do you know doors just shut  almost shut under their own weight with just a light push & let go !! click ,  ,
it was just my preference to have the doors shutting  like original ! , your choice!!  but all that slamming after a while , will weaken? stress latches , door jam metal , window mechanisms etc !!

also this was about 8 years ago when all this happened , & i had the weather strips bought for 2 years , so metro might be ok & changed the design now , also , if you did not mind big gaps & sticking out doors , they would of been no problem ! :shruggy: :scratchchin: :popcrn:

waisted over $300 on metro weatherstrips & the only ones that fitted ok was the trunk & door class rear rubber sealing strip the slides in the stainless trim
like i say they are really well made & look awesome , but dont let the doors fit how i want ! might be different now

Geez - I'm glad I'm not the only one with that sorta issue.
Although I had my door weatherstripping on before I put in the vent windows and glass in and was able to adjust the doors to close very easily.  After the glass and vent window was installed, I had to fuddle for hours to get the doors to close easily.  I pinpointed the problem to two spots - the area where the door weatherstripping screws to the lower part of the chrome window vent and the top of the chrome window vent where it hits the roof weatherstripping.  My weatherstripping in this area kinda bulges out slightly.  Now my doors need a a decent push to close all the way and on the drivers side I have a paper thin gap the whole way up the vent window on the drivers side. :icon_smile_angry:

Let me tell you - when you move that door catch striker in any direction you think its gonna help - and it doesn't.. .. #%$%@%#$#^#!  A real PITA! :brickwall:
I even effin chiped the front of my door trying to re-adjust the hinges to make it work right.  Black on black is beoch to see!

I guess they are not going to "compress" :RantExplode:

yeah i know ,
nothing worse than having fresh paint & getting a chip , no matter how small !! especialy if its caused trying to sort out something that should be easy  :yesnod: :flame:
not good really frustrating !!  i removed the vent window frame/door glass also  , even had to take the , door glass rubber strips  made by  catwiskers back out ! at one stage  then done a combination or  door hinge adjustments &  latch striker ! old roof rail rubber ! new door !! had it real good but door still needed slamming a bit  , put the side glass/vent window back in ! no chance !!  even elongating the bottom hinge so you had in & out movment like the top crossed my mind !! did not do it!!
might of worked  !  but  still this much trouble to compress after being shut over a year !!  , the door lock was under soo much tension just pressing the button the door would spring
open about 5"  & if you adjusted it so it was like a normal door !!  it was like   it had been jumped at the dukesfest
!! %^$$:@{()  :flame: :brickwall:   might be worth trying to fine good originals ! i was lucky as mine were almost like new & just needed a good clean !! see i thought  doing a nut & bolt resto on my charger might as well put new weatherstrips  on :slap:
being the car was 32 years old at the time !!

What a story :eek2: I have already adjusted gaps and windows during a couple of days so I ain't gonna move those things
anymore. I have a pair from Metro and one pair from soffseal so I guess I will start with the ones from soffseal since the clips
looks the same anyway. I hope things has improved by customercomplaints with those Metrosealings. :scratchchin:

Metro hasn't changed anything. Trust me I know I used to work for them until I got a better job. The gaskets are the same thickness they were years back. I won't say anything bad about them except I will leave you with this. None of their products are on my car nor will they EVER be on my car.

oh right ! not good then !!  seems a pity that they go to all that trouble to make them as i think they are really well made & a awesome product ! but whats the point it they don't fit like original

I don't think only the ones from Metro gives this problem. With the ones from soff seal there is no way in h**l that I can close
my doors. The mounting though went very good as soon as I got the clips pushed in. :2thumbs:

Question is, for a car that is driven very rarely, are they necessary except for the looks? :scratchchin:
