So a long time friend of min took me and a couple buds out to his house last Saturday to show us his dad's Restored '71 Javelin.. Then He mentioned that about a mile into the woods there were some old cars just rotting away, so he took me and my friend Kyle and Jake out there and the cars were in a miserable state of condition! The cars are what I believe to be a 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne and a 1940 Plymouth.. There was also a horse drawn carrige out there along with a VW Bug with a cloth sunroof..
I went and found out that the local junkyard, so I called them up and inquired... They said that since the cars are so far out in the woods and that they no longer use the property that we could do whatever with them.. So Jake decided to take the Valve cover from the Chevy and Kyle and I decided we would take all the trim off of it and try and sell it, splitting profits between all four of us.. I found the Liscence plate to the Chevy, it is from 1968, New Hampshire and has a .22 hole in it.. I also took the one remaining hubcap off of the Plymouth and gave it to Kyle.. I plan on going back there next week so if anybody needs parts just pm me here.. The plymouth is so bad that it has no rockers, no floor the driver's side door is rotted in half and the only nice things on it are the dashboard and front genders..

I find it sad and cool when I see old cars in the woods.  Enjoy, they'll just rot anyway.  I know where there is an old ford flat head 1950's something ford down and embankment just rotting away.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Thats a pretty cool find. Sad to see but cool none the less. Theres a '56 Ford in the woods behind my house just rotting away. I think it belonged to my neighbour at one time.

Current MoPars:
1968 Charger. 318 Out of commission:(
1975 Dart Swinger. 225 Pops daily ride.
1990 Dodge Ram. 360FI My daily ride.
2007 Magnum R/T. 5.7 Family wagon.

If possible, you may want to consider pulling the Chevy out of the woods so you can completely strip it clean of parts. The '58s are getting more desirable every year, and you would be amazed at what parts people would buy off of one. You and your buddies could make some decent coin off this one, and you wouldn't even have to try and title it to boot. I say, go and grab it before all of the useful parts are gone!

I'd love to but we cannot even move it! I went and I saw one of the coils for the suspension, I picked it up, the car has no frame from the engine-back! the doors may be good but the car is shot! I think I might try and get the whole fron clip, including the front suspension.. the car still has all it's belts and hoses.. Amazingly, the wheels look good still, so there is a nice set of steelies, and the tires appear to be original, the spare is in good shape, looks like it has never tasted asphalt..

On to the Plymout.. Not sure what year it is, I am thinking it might be a '40 but I do not know.. this car is beat to hell, no floors, no rockers, the frame looks like it might be useable to someone.. Now, the Chevy makes this car look nice! This one still has all the engine components I believe, it is a flathead six andit looks to have a 3 speed on the column, but I don't know.. With this, I hope to pull the entire driveline, the front clip looks decent and the rear bumper and trunlid look good.. The driver's door is completely rotted in half, I can fold it like a piece of paper but the passenger side door looks adequite.. the car still has it's data tags...

If you can't move the '58 then I would say pick it clean as you can where it sits. You won't be sorry. As I said before, the '58s have a lot of enthusiasts out there and you won't have much trouble selling whatever you can grab off it.

Yeah Most definatly I'll pick that sucker clean! Heck I think I might be able to salvage the seat frames.. Oh the inner fenders have rubber flaps that cover the control arms, and those look nearly brand new! Doyyou think somebody would want the radiator? I just wanna get as much out of this car as possible..

Someone would most definitely want the radiator! The rubber flaps that cover the control arms would also be something worth grabbing. If you can pull it, most definitely grab the steering wheels and complete dash assembly as well. Even if the radio looks spent, there are people out there who rebuild them, especially if it's a Wonderbar radio. Saving the seat frames is also a good idea, as there are people who restore those as well. Also keep an eye out for smaller pieces like the door locks, ashtrays, cigarette lighters, etc. Also, the doors on that '58 don't look half bad in the pics. You may want to pull those also. What about the front and rear bumpers? How do those look?

BIRD67

The bumpers look good, I pulled one of the taillight assemblies, it had the original lenses.. Literally, I just pulled it off.. The rear bumper is interesting, it is still attached on one side of the car and I can almost pry it off, but it moves the entire rear of the car! The whole firewall of the car looks decent, so does the radiator support, generator and horns.. The front bumper looks very tempting too! Now, I am not sure, but would the sunvisors we worth much? the car has been sitting there since 1968 and they look semi-presentable..

Yes, the sun visors would also be worth saving. Basically, try and pull anything and everything off it that you can, including the firewall and radiator support. Even stuff that looks like it has seen better days would still be worth pulling, as there are people out there who rebuild that stuff. The classic Chevy purists are a lot like Mopar guys in that they would rather restore a worn-out original part than put repop stuff on their cars. It's too bad you don't have a way to move the car. Stuff like the engine block, axles and other heavy parts are also worth saving. In fact, those may be among the most valuable parts you can grab. Also, I forgot to ask you: Does the car still have a VIN number? A place to look is on the driver's door. I can decode the VIN for you and tell you exactly what '58 you have, if it had a V8 in it originally, etc.
Besides Mopars, I have a soft spot for 1955-60 Chevys, so I am anxious to see what you wind up pulling off this car. Keep me posted!

rav440

dont pry stuff off  :rotz: chances are your not going to get parts to unbolt either , best bet is goto home depot or lowes and buy 1-2 cordless sawzalls and a ton of cood metal blades that way you can minimize the car by cutting off parts beyond the savlageable part you want . then get home and soak it in PB BLASTER so thing come apart easiser with out tearing up or bending the hell out of the stainless trim . you should make a good buck off of the parts .

good luck

I'm pretty sure that once I have all the body parts I can get off, I will try and scavenge the axle and maybe the engine.. Would that Plymouth's flathead be worth anything? it is in better shape than the Chevy's engine..  Thanks for the advice rav440, I will definatly go look for a sawzall! Black Charger, I didn't get a chance to see if it still had the VIN, but I will look!

the ryobi cordless sawsall will do just fine just make sure you have spare batteries fully charged or if you have access to a generator you could use a corded sawsall . just bunt burn down the forest in the mean time . also use a faceshield or saftey glasses . dont lose an eye over trying to make a buck .

Haha, burning stuff shouldn't happen, I dont think my parents or my friends parents would be too impressed with that.

That will buff out!  :buff:  :smilielol:
Awesome find though! Shame they were just left out there to rot...

I went back there today.. The car is alot worse than I thought.. We removed the trunklid and some small trim parts.. I checked the rear end and the pumpkin is completely rotted through.. Also, there was no VIN at all, I thought that was a little odd.. The doors look decent for taking, but there is no structure of the car left! Heck, if I even tried moving the car it would break in 3 pieces!! The dash will be the next piece we remove, so will the front genders so we can get access to the doors..

jeryst

You know what they say, "One mans trash is another mans treasure".

There will be someone willing to buy every part you can salvage, so take everything you can. Dont wonder about whether
someone will be interested in it. It's only costing you some time right now, so worry about that later. Even if you sell a
knob for $5 on ebay, its still $5. Many parts can be reconditioned, no matter how bad they look. I had a friend that
had a 55 Chevy Nomad. At the time, nobody repopped the chrome eyebrows over the headlights, so they were
going for $2500 each in usable condition. You mentioned the sunvisors. Even if the sunvisors are shot, someone will still
be willing to buy the hardware. The bumpers are also valuable, even as cores, if they are solid. Maybe the doors are shot,
but some of the internal parts, like the window tracks, door strikers, locking rods, etc are still usable. I'm sure there are many parts
on both of those cars that are not being repopped, so you should be able to sell them.

I once had a rear clip from a Corvette that I took to Carlisle to sell. I was surprised at how many people walked up to me and offered
$5 for some little clip, screw, bolt, etc. Why? Because they were missing some little trinket, they wanted original, and they couldnt
find one any place unless it was part of a bigger assembly that they did not want to buy. They were happy to spend the $5 just to
get that one little piece.

I guess what I am saying is "DONT LEAVE ANY SOLID PART BEHIND, NO MATTER HOW SMALL!".

BIRD67

Thanks jeryst, I will get every small part possible on the car, I'm definatly going to pull all of the carburator linkage because that still works, the instrument cluster is pretty nice too!! The door strikers and all the moveable parts are nice! The steering column is nice too, not sure how I will get it out though..
