I have a non-numbers matching 72 U-code 4 speed Rallye Charger, original 4 speed car.  Motor is 70 date code 440.

Just took the tranny out for the first time and it is a 23 spline......so someone snagged my original 18 spline.

So I assume the 440 crank in the car is not compatible with an 18 spline (I'm considering trying to pick one up)?

Hell, this may just mean I get a TKO kit and call it a day....lol..

AFAIK, the oilite bushing is the same part number for all engines, regardless of whether it came equipped with the 23- or 18-spline input shaft.  You should be good to go in that respect, but you'll still have to at least switch out the clutch disc for the 18-spline version.  Whether that new clutch disc is compatible with your existing pressure plate, I dunno (seems like it would be compatible, but I could be wrong).
