From what I understand...a lot of 69 and 70 Charger owners have run across this dilemma...The tailights seem to be sitting too far outside of the tailpan...meaning they are not flush and sitting too far out.  I looked inside to see if there were some sort of adjustment, but only found the 8 washer-clad nuts that hold it in place.  About 3/8 to 1/2 inch to be exact.  Is it possible the foam gasket is too thin?   And...how thick are these gaskets new??  I'd like them to sit nice and flush.  I thought about shims...but then there will be a gap and it will not be sealed so that's out of the question.

the gaskets are really thick and sturdy...over 1/4". you have to carefully 'crush' them down by tightning the nuts in an even pattern. you could, if you have a steady hand, slice the gaskets in half..you'd gain quite a bit.

I tightened mine down, let it compress a couple of days, then very carefully tightened it a bit more.

Actually....the gasket needs to be thicker it seems to me.....the tailights stick out too far is what im getting at and i want to get them in closer so they are flush and not sticking out too far.

Do you think that maybe placing 3 or 4 layers of 3M double sided emblem tape would suffice?...That way there would be no gaps and it would surely make a good seal?  And...how thick exactly are the foam gaskets new?  Mine must be paper thin by the looks of them.
