'71 Grilles on a '73

Used the search and found that '71 grilles fit on a '73.  Just tried it today as I bought some '71 grilles in great shape for cheap.  Looks like the inner pedestals are too long and the brackets do not have the right holes.  I do see the two square holes where you can move up the mounts on the middle bracket, but there's no holes on the inner bracket to move the mounting places to.  How is everyone else doing this conversion?  Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

as far I know is a plug and play job with just the opening to the hood release location exception, being 71/72s are more toward to center... not a problem being you have an SE and is internal.

something must be wrong to not be able to make it. Is usually a very tipical and easy interchange.

Of course I don't have the last word on this.

No pictures unfortunately, but I just tried again.  There's no way these will work with a '73 bumper.  The innermost brackets are not far back enough and the middle brackets are not short enough.  I've got a '72 bumper somewhere, but I was hoping to use the '73 bumper.

Maybe the extra distance with the rubber bumper fillers messes some stuff up.

mmm weird... I have seen them lot of times installed without problems as far I know. Sure 73/74s fits perfectly on earliers too ( personally checked )

if some problem with the extra lenght 'cause the filler, will be a gap with sealed beams, but grille brackets are attached to bumper, not to the body

really weird since I think everything about grille brackets is the same :shruggy:
