I was browsing Moparts and came across this stone shield that was on '70 B-bodies.  I never saw the part on either Superbird that I have worked on and I was wondering if it even came on them.  I don't recall seeing the mounting holes.  I removed one (and still have it) from a '70 Sport Satellite.  Are they really that hard to find?  Apparently this guy thinks so.... he wants $495 for his!!!  Road Runners or GTXs... did they have them?

Ad from Moparts:
Original 70 B Body Front Side Rail Lower Splash Shield. Part number 2925315. Part is in excellent condition, was repainted, the rubber/staples are original to the shield and are in great shape. Very hard to find with the original rubber/staples in excellent original condition, usually the rubber will get cracked/torn/rub/wear marks in them thus needing replacement. There is no correct reproduction rubber available. $495 OBO

Usually it's an automatic trans thing and plastic. The 70 E-Body trans am cars with auto trans do have a metal one. I'll check my survivor bird. My 70 E-Body Hemi Auto has a plastic one.

The Satellite I removed mine from was a 318 auto car.  They went on the bottom of the left front rail behind the K-frame.

I had some 66 Chargers that were automatic cars, all had them. My '70 Charger has it as well....all of mine are metal with rubber attached. It's purpose was to keep snow off the trans linkage from building up.

I forgot to install one years ago on my car...drove in the snow and gas pedal was hard to push...snow & ice were binding up the kick-down linkage

my 69 has one !! metal  with rubber flange type thing :yesnod:

It is correct but he is way out of line on price.A lot were removed and never put back on.Mine is the original and still looks new.

Is that thing made of gold?  :o  A member sold me one for $25....

I agree with all, it's standard issue, not drivetrain or model specific for a b-body.. Seems the ad is a little skewed in price ( well,  a lot, I just wanted to be civil ).

all my past and current '69's and '70's had it....

Yep, And I have another Id let go for 20.00 that needs new rubber parts.

It is an auto only part...As stated above its to protect the transmission linkage. Some call it a starter shield, but its not....

AB, DB is correct

It's auto transmission only, and in '69 they were metal with the rubber flange.  I gave one away on Friday, just to find out on Saturday that Danny still needed one. :brickwall:

I think you'll find that '69 4-speed cars' frame rails are drilled or punched where this shield would go, so it is entirely possible that someone added the shield to Dana thinking it should be there.  My R/T (I remember looking at this detail years ago) has the holes, but there are no thread marks where a screw was ever installed.

It's my assumption that '70 B-bodies were handled similarly.

maxwellwedge

Oh Yeah - I forgot the crown was returned to me.

69_500

Yuppers checked the car again when I got home at 3 am Sunday and it is missing on my 500. Oh well such is life right. I should have looked before I made the comment that my car already had one.

Checked my auto Superbird - it has the metal one as well. My Auto non small block E-Bodies have a plastic one. All my 4-speed cars have none. My T/A auto has a metal one.

Neither of my 66 4spd Chargers has that shield...I have only seen it on auto cars

CornDogsCharger

Wow, great info!  I don't ever recall seeing it on any of my cars.  I'll need to check out some of my parts cars.  The automatic Superbird that I am working on didn;t have one on it.  Maybe I need to show my boss the ad for the $450 one and tell him I'll make him a smoking deal on the one I have!  I'll let it go for $250.  hahahaha

there was one on a low mileage bird I worked on - it was a 440+6 auto car...    I thought it was weird because my boss's 440+6 4-speed bird did not have one...      I have never seen one on any other car though -   :shruggy:
