Lol she has been dealing with me sleeping with parts for over twenty years... that's why we have a king size bed...  :smilielol:

Thanks, I wouldn't wish redoing that grille on my worst enemy... The only part of this car that was more tedious was the floor. Glad that's over....

JB400

Most tedious, but also the most rewarding.  Job well done :2thumbs:

Outstanding work with the grille, and of course, the entire vehicle. Great thread!
What shade and brand of Argent Silver did you finish the grille with?

68pplcharger

thanks JB400

Nickrc3
Thanks... I used silver Argent rally wheel paint from Eastwood. Thanks to our grille restoration thread here at DC.com

Bob T

Looks real good, well done.
Just remembering how mine looks with the argent shining through the stone chips where somebody years ago painted it all black, the corners are split and cracked too

The stock look is the Win on the day    :yesnod:

Yeah, that's the one thing that will always bother me... rocks and birds. hope to never see either hit the grille, but especially a bird. That grille was damn near perfect when I started, referring to dents/nicks (paint looked like hell). No cracks anywhere... hope that stays true for a long time.

Motor is back in...

Hidden hood pins....

I'll have more pics later this week.

How they work: There is a 22gauge steel distribution plate that is formed to the hood. this plate will be bonded to the top of the hood and filled so you can't see the plate. The plate will have a coupling nut welded to the underneath side into the hood. I'm using a universal aftermarket lock set used for locking old style hoods. The height of the latch is adjustable with the coupling nut. The lock itself is mounted to the headlight assembly bracket. There are two mounted about 4" from the each side of the hood. You can access the lock from the front of the car. i.e. there is a small 1/2" gap from the grille to the headlight door that can be used to access the lock. I tested the lock with the grille in place and it works pretty slick...

Thanks Jeff

I think the factory block color turned out to be a pretty good accent color.

Thanks Geoff,
I've wanted this color since I was a teenager. There was a 70 Demon that was Plum crazy with black accents. It was pulling in from the street at night and it looked black until it hit the lights. Coolest affect I've ever seen. From that day I wanted purple, but not the original shade. The color seemed deeper and darker at night. That's the color I tried to imitate. This color has turned out better than my expectations. That semi gloss black I;m using seems to accent that color perfect as well. I'm going to use for the strips as well...

Top side pics of the hood pin locks

you got it, hit it right  :2thumbs:
never liked purple on a charger , but this colour is spot on

68pplcharger

Finished the Hood pins this weekend. I will get them blended to the top side of the hood by the weekend. Welded four studs to each distribution plate so there is little to no chance of the plate cracking the resin or filler later down the road after the paint is on the car.
