I am putting my steering column back together after paint, I cant get the upper bearing on enough to get clip on, the shaft wants to push it back out. Any ideas? the fsm says a special bearing tool that bulls shaft into bearing?

I had the same problem w/my 73. It was a pain but if you are patient, you wont need anything special. I had to use one hand to extend the shaft and the other to get the bearing and snap-ring in place. It took about 20 minutes. Good luck to you. Jim

I used a small piece (1 3/4" long - 3/4" ) pipe and a washer on end with the steering wheel nut. It pulled the shaft into bearing.

thanks

Hi guys...just got into my 70 column and I need one of those upper ball bearings, also the rubber seal.
Any sources out there you can lead me to?

Thanks Joe
