And also when folks start to drive over the bridge, I bet that half of them will for get the dam is even there probably after so long of using the bridge.

Quotehave anyone every seen the movie "Cars"? and remember in that film when they stuck that new part of the road through to what happen to the small town? I know that was only a cartoon film but that same kind of thing can also happen here as well

I think this shot was the funniest thing in the whole movie:

I think the funniest part of the whole movie was when Guido does a 4 tire change pit stop and all the tires roll back into place and he turns to the chick hick team and says "pit stop", then all their mustache grilles fall off.   :smilielol:

Or at the end at the drive-in, Mack is pretty good.  http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3504144665/

It was an amusing show.  Although it needed a 2nd-gen Charger somewhere.

(Hmm . . . If they had put a 2nd-gen in it, then it might well have been an orange moonshine-running redneck character . . . )

When you pour concrete, heat is a byproduct due to the chemical reaction.. they say that if the hoover dam was not put together compartmentally, and instead done by one huge pouring process. the heat from the initial pouring process would still have been emitting to this day.  They needed quick cooling so each part of the Hoover dam was built in smaller concrete compartments to allow the quick dissipation of heat during the hardening process.

There is your worthless fact of the day.

you won't be able to stop and get pics from the new bridge, well, not legally Chuck
and the bridge is so high up that you won't see it in any of your pics unless you tilt the camera up that direction
i don't know if i want to go across it, the winds get pretty bad out here and they already toppled a couple of cranes on that job a year or so ago

I was there in April of 2005. It seemed they were making good progress then, they had the road on both sides to the first set of pillars I believe. I figured they were done by 2007 until I saw something on TV about it last year.
I agree with Skip68, it may screw up pics from a helicopter, but I find myself in a car most of the time. The view south of the Dam wasn't very interesting anyway. I think the view from the bridge will be very scenic. The article said they were going to remove all the suspension cables, if that's the case then the bridge won't be very intrusive at all. Besides, after Sept. 11, 2001 they banned trucks from going over the Dam, isn't that the main reason for the bridge?
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

Here's what it looked like when I was there about 14 months ago.

Awesome pics but what is the point of that bypass bridge  :shruggy:  Seems like the road over the damn is all that is needed.   Never been there and don't know the traffic situation but I don't see the point of constructing that massive bridge -seems like a waste of resources  :Twocents:

Silly, its so then can crash Megatron ito it and not hurt the Dam itself...

That will be a cool view from the bridge, pity there is nowhere to pull over on it to allow tourists to take pictures

So the terrorist cant drive a truck onto Hoover Dam and blow it up, thus shutting down power to the West.    :shruggy:

The traffic can be backed up for miles going across the bridge, my family and I stopped there on our vacation one year and the line of cars was massive.  It was kinda like a 2 hour rush hour.

you will still be able to drive over the dam if you want to, but this way traffic won't be backed up forever in the summer for those that have somewhere else to go (the road is steep and curvy, 15-20 MPH) plus large trucks have to go around the dam for reasons already stated and its about an hour or hour and a half out of the way for them, plus Searchlight has a speed trap that is making alot of money off them right no and boulder city wants their money back

Ah heck, the water level is so low right now it would just be a slight wave...  :icon_smile_big:

I had a 3-4 hour delay going 3 miles to the dam one evening  :P

I just flew over the dam today on my way back from Texas.
They have 2 road panels left to make it look like a completed bridge.
