This is a new tactic by the spammers. They get caught too fast when making posts so they send several thousand PMs trying to make it look like an important message from the site. The forum blocks mass PMs so only a few get through but it's still a pain. Please ignore.

If a person could die from a computer virus the gene poll would get cleaned out a lot faster...

If ANYTHING shows up on your screen and says Antivirus 2010 (or 2009, or whatever year) or Antivirus +
or anything other than what you know you already have running on your system DO NOT CLICK ON IT.

Cancel it out and find some other means to scan your computer - like using your own antivirus software or purposely going to a vendor's site and using their online scanner.
Same if you get a message of any sort. Ignore the message. If you are in need of an antivirus solution, go to a vendor's site directly after googling for recommendations.

Stuff that pops up - especially those mentioned above - are hidden trojans that download even more nasty stuff.
Some the recent ones will trash your hard drive just enough to make it unusable when you try to remove them.

I'm at the end of a 4 week job with my brother's computer trying to clean that crap out. I finally gave up and wiped it clean.
Luckily I was able to use a bootable CD and backup all his important files.
By the way, the 4 weeks is the total time I've had the computer - I only worked on it in my spare time.
The most frustrating thing is that I was able to get close to getting things cleaned up and running again, but every time I'd get one step closer, I'd hit another wall.
Finally, the corrupted or missing system files did me in and I wiped it clean.

Thought I would give my  :Twocents: here.

Over the last 5 or 6 months, we've had an unusual surge in PCs infected with the Antivirus 2009, 2010, etc. A newer version showed up a couple of weeks ago called XP Antivirus 2010. It looks very much like a legitimate Microsoft security warning, but it isn't. We have had major success in removing these types of malware by using a tool called "Combofix". Just google the name and you'll find it on bleepingcomputer.com. It's quick and successful, plus it isn't some huge program that runs all the time, you open it, scan and delete it when it's done. Anyway, for what it's worth.....

it's a new virus out there. It disables your firewall and installs itself it its place and tells you need to buy program etc. typical spam/trojan scheme. if you do accidentally get your computer infected go ahead and run Spybot and Malwarebytes.
