I thought some of you may like to see my friend Bill Cullere's 1970 4-speed Rebel Machine.

The body's not perfect but the paint is original with no plan to cover.

At 17, my Dad told me that I could have whatever car I could save 1/2 the money for...I had $800 and found a '69 390 AMX 4-speed for $1500.

He reneged, and threatened to pop me when I moved over to the '73 454 Laguna S-3 for $1600.

I ended up with a $135 '66 MGB which I beat the crap out of for 2 years. Of course, his refusal led to me finding my Charger.

The older I get, the smarter my Dad gets.

A 70 AMX would be fine with me, to bad they are pricey.

I used to work on this thing with my dad. His friend owns it along with lots of other rare muscle cars :yesnod:

If I had the cash I'd buy it for sure. Actually, I'd love to buy the '70 GSX we restored back in 2001-2002 that he's selling now......I don't got $110,000 though :faint:

Smart because it lead you to a charger?  Or smart because you're not wrapped around a tree in that AMC? (or both?)

I bugged my dad to buy a Machine we saw new in the showroom....he stuck with a Dodge instead. I am looking for a nice, survivor Rambler-Scrambler....tough to find as most were rode hard and put away wet. Those things are cool!

Oh with all certainty it was the tree. He was always trying to figure out ways to keep me from killing myself, and believe me I was hard to stay ahead of. I did make it there once, eventually, in spite of his best efforts.

The Charger probably wouldn't have happened if I had the AMX beforehand because the garage would have been full, or the casket.

My dad wouldn't let me get an MG! "Son you want a hardtop, the convertibles always leak and those darn MG's are too small"  :eek2:

The damage to the right front fender detracts from the car, but other than that I like it. I always thought those cars had good lines!

They only leaked when it rained. ::) :icon_smile_big: I had an MGB Roadster for several years, I really enjoyed it, wish I hadn't sold it.

There are some AMC cars really coming into their own. Here is a link to a one of one factory race car built in the basement of the Kennosha Assembly plant.

This car on that site is just as interesting.....
http://www.jakesgeneralstore.com/image-galleries/cars/images-1969-ford-talladega-white

I had the the check signed and ready to hand over to the owner of a Maroon 351 powered Talladega back in 88 and for some stupid reason I didnt feel right about it and asked if I could sleep on it. I backed out of the deal and have been not feeling so good about it ever since.
wingless now, but still around.

Jake

Cyclones and Talladegas have had a hard time gaining notoriety and a big following. Bring one to a show, or an AMC for that matter and folks flock to them because they are something different.

Davtona

I remember looking at a Rebel Machine back in probably 1973. Would have been my second car. Only Machine I ever came across for sale. I passed on it and at the time really never knew what it was. Have seen a few Scramblers since but that was the only Machine. Anybody know how many were built? Just curious.

I think those are pretty cool machines now... but being in  SE Wisconsin.. back in the day it was just another Rambler to the guys I used to hang with...
