Helped an old guy out

Today, stopped on the side of the road I saw a 3rd gen Charger with the hood up. I slowed down and this old guy was standing there looking like he needed help. Being a Charger, I had to stop. I got out and asked if he needed help. He said it just quit running on him. He thinks it's not getting any spark. We looked under the hood, first suspect is the ballast resistor. I offered the guy a jumper wire if he wanted to try and bypass the resistor. He tried that but the car still would not start. we started talking and I told him I have a 72 and I am partial to Mopars. I just couldn't leave him on the side of the road. He said he was just passing through, lived in Wickenberg, about 30 miles up the road. He was on his way to meet up with a friend. He said he has had the Charger for a long while and never had any problems with it. Said it was a 74. He pulled on a few things with no luck. Finally, I go back to my truck and get out a multi meter. Checked for power on primary side of the coil as he cranked it over. It had voltage. Looked at the coil wire to the distributor. Found burn marks on the center tower of the distributor cap. He said he borrowed the coil wire from his 75 Lincoln. He said you cant buy just a coil wire anymore. True! I widened the connector on the wire and popped it back in. Tugged on the coil primary + wire and it just pulled apart. Somebody twisted the wire together and put a piece of vacuum hose over the twist to hide it. Went to my truck and got some tools and a but splice. Put that back together and it fired right up.

The guy was very greatfull. Asked if I wanted anything for the parts, meaning money. I told him no way. I just hope that when it is my turn on the side of the road needing help someone will be there.

I did my good deed for the day.

Cool story.   Good deeds pay dividends.  Especially with mopars.

  Im a road call warrior to. For years stopped and helped out with break downs.Seems to be alot of mopars with wiring issuses

That's nice of you. Wish there would be more folks like yourself. Helping others in need and not just if they have Mopar or not.

I was out in the middle of BFE Montana a few weeks ago and lost control of my truck and went into the ditch. Had to dig my truck out of the snow. People just kept on passing by. Didn't even pull of to asks in everything was alright. It was -22 degree's. I guess I can't really blame um. Eventually got the truck dug out and popped it in 4 x 4 and I was on my way again.

Good for you. Up here in Minneapolis you can't help anyone anymore. I stopped to try to help a guy get out of the ditch not long ago and a cop showed up and told me to stop and keep moving or he'd arrest me and impound my truck. So apparently its illegal to be a good citizen anymore. Go figure.

It's a good feeling to be of service. Last Tues. I met  by chance, a very nice woman who, when I asked "how are you" told me the story of wrecking her car and feeling dumb for backing into a pole when backing up to allow another driver by in a cramped garage. She complained that now her passenger door wouldn't open. So I said I'd take a look, we trudged a couple blocks in the rain to where her car was parked. Seems the plastic cladding on the mid '90s Buick Century had become pinched and slid forward from the rear door - partially covering the front door, It was a simple matter to firmly pull the plastic rub strip back to it's original location and pound the piece to seat it. I also managed with my leather gloves to somewhat rub out the scrapes around the area, which, in the rain at least, dissipeared. Not a perfect fix but it looked a whole lot better and the door opened as new.
  Elated and quite appreciative, she treated me to a movie (up in the air) and dinner (Thai) this past Fri night. 
  And so now I have a new friend.

well down here you don't know who is the cop or who is the thief, so GO FIGURE if you stop to help somebody and a "Cop" gets closer
