I agree, Craig's List is your best bet. Here are some chargers off CL to give you a sample of what to expect:

Here's a list of some car shows in CA AZ etc.

Here's the best site for CA car shows/cruise nights

If your in town on 2/14, might find something at the Long Beach Swap meet.

Might want to head up to Oregon to hunt chargers (about 12 hour drive from LA) they seem to have a good selection in the $10K range.

COKE

These Euros are going to leave the states without a Mopar

Don,t get angry! i was just joking !
You had a very good idea.I bought my car in this forum years ago,but i didn´t go to the USA to check it,i just send a purchase agreement contract to the seller sent the payment and ordered a company to pick up the car to bring it to Spain.
The risk was high ,i was lucky because the car arrived but it was a little worse than  advertised.

If you can go and touch is the best thing you can do

Good luck

69´Charger R/T,440 ,4-speed,Dana 60 3.55.

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody, and also for all of your tips about cars for sale!
I hope I'll be able to find a decent Charger while I'm over there, it COULD happen  :)

By the way, my friend is searching for a cheap 77-78 Trans Am, preferably black,
so if anyone knows of a car like that for sale, lemme know

Daniel

If it didn't have to be running/driving I could really save you some cash! I have one in Texas that is for sale here in the classifieds.

Hello again everybody :)

So, our roadtrip is getting closer and closer, and I'm really getting anxious :)

Most things have been taken care of, just a few things left to solve.

When buying a car, what's the preferred way to pay?

Seems like cash in hand is the only way for most americans, but it seems
to be kinda tricky for a foreigner to just go to a bank and make a withdrawal
from a swedish bank.
I thought about maybe opening an account at an american bank and transfer
my money there, that should make it easier to take out cash, right?

I've saved up some more money by the way, so now I'm looking for a car up to $20K.

Hello Daniel,

It sounds like everything is falling into place for your trip here. They say "cash is king" but I have no idea what the Swedish import laws are like. If it were me I'd what all my documents in order to present to Swedish customs including:

Title signed over to you.

Bill of Sale with a witnesses signature.

Receipt from the seller to you stating the amount you paid for the car.

You can't bring more than $10,000 cash into the US so I would check with your bank at home and see what they suggest. Good luck, have a safe trip here and keep us posted on what you find out. Cheers

FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

 Howdy Daniel!
Great luck with all that!
$20K is much more realistic for looking for a running driving second Gen. and if you do get here (San Francisco Ca.) look me up via a PM and I'll give you the Grand Tour,..  Charger incl.  :icon_smile_wink:
with or without last426...   :yesnod:
keep us posted.

Good Luck and God speed you! Your going to need some way to exchange euros to dollars.... :scratchchin:

Yep, we'll be in San Francisco!

Don't know exactly when yet though..
I'll let you know  :yesnod:

DanneP

Okay, here's a preliminary plan of our route..

Any thoughts or suggesitions?
Tips about what to see, what to avoid?

We'll arrive in Los Angeles, CA 30/1, then drive north.
And I guess the rest speaks for itself, just follow
the blue line on the map :)
We'll head back home to Sweden 13/2.

Daniel

Other cars of interest;

Challenger 70-71
Cuda 70-71
Coronet 68-70
Road Runner 68-70

And of course, 2nd gen Charger.
71-72 also :)

I'd prefer something with a straight and rust free body, it's not important
if it's an R/T or not.

Let us all know...we are all voyeurs in the first degree (well, at least when it comes to Chargers....)   Plus, there are a lot of members in the San Fran area who might like a meet and greet.  :2thumbs:

Maybe I'll start a new thread when we arrive in the U.S. with updates and pics along the way :)
It'd be great to meet up with a bunch of people

So, maybe we should do another Charger Cruise Winter Edition?..  :D

I personally like scenery so I'd swing a bit further east and hit southern Utah (Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks are awesome!) and Flagstaff. You're basically going to be looking at desert (or maybe I need to make another trip out there myself).

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I'll check it out, maybe our route will be changed as we go along.
But being from the north of Sweden, the desert seems cool to us :)

Sad thing is we'll only have two weeks, so we can't explore as much
of the U.S as we'd like.
It's supposed to be a vacation, so it wouldn't be very relaxing to drive
like a bat out of hell to make it back to LA in time

I'll make up a new route on Mapquest and see how much further it
would be to drive through Utah..

Hey Daniel,      The drive down from Reno to Vegas on 95 won't show you much but you will see some open land for sure.   :icon_smile_wink:   Ask "CB" Christian about bringing money into the states.   He has done it several times.   Keep looking in the Phoenix, Las Vegas, Tucson, L.A. and Sacramento Craigslist for cars.   :2thumbs:

DanneP

So, I've made up a new route, what do you think?

DanneP

We've also planned to visit a few ghost towns on our roadtrip, we're both fascinated
by old forgotten parts of the American culture.

And some movie locations, among others Piru, CA where California Kid was shot,
Interstate 50 and the ghost town of Goldfield where Vanishing Point was shot.

So if you have any tips on old junkyards, ghosttowns, or some other cool old things,
let me know!

Oh yeah, gotta check out Route 66 as well.. any good parts of that road on the
route we planned?

Thanks,

Daniel

Good luck on your search, and I hope you enjoy your stay in the US.

BTW, if you run across more than one 68 Charger that fits your requirements. let me know, cause I've been looking for an unmolested, driver quality Charger for under $10k for some time now, and havent found one yet.

DanneP

Yeah I think it will be an interesting route to travel, although maybe
a bit far to make it in a relaxed way in two weeks  :shruggy:

Not many days left now!  :woohoo:

Well I'm off to bed now, gotta get up early for work tomorrow.
Which means no internet access until thursday afternoon when I'm home again..

See y'all at the end of the week!
