yeah that would have been cool Twin turbo viper engine in a Daytona making over 1000HP...... i think the result would have been a sound victory over the Ferrari as far as Top speed is concerned.

That's pretty awesome. But I have to wonder.... if you were to put that 1000hp engine and drivetrain into say a 72 town and country station wagon you could probably get 200 mph out of it too.

Not without some body and tire/wheel modifications. But in essence you are correct you can make just about everything go 200mph if you add enough horsepower. It's just that normal tires are going to rip apart at those speeds and a normal car has nowhere near enough downforce to have it stick to the ground. You would probably also want to do something to the brakes, unless you don't care what happens after you hit 200mph.
