Removing K-Member without removing engine?

Is it possible to remove the k member with leaving the motor in the engine bay? I want to weld up my K member (like bull) but I don't wanna take out the engine. So if I support the engine with a hoist it should be doable, right? Just remove the 4 k-member to frame bolts, remove the bolts at the motor mount and the the k-member should droip right down. Or am I missing something?

Couple of more things like the PS stuff if you have it, also need too unbolt the steering coupler, brake lines, shocks, torsion bars..ect

But yes that should work.

Hemidog

Sounds like quite a job, remember that the front suspension attaches to the k-member.

Ghoste

Sort of curious as to why you are looking to only remove the K member?

Hemidog

He said he wanted FirmFeel's reinforcement kit?

Front suspension is already out of the car and I do have manual steering so I guess the job shouldn't be too hard

So are you going to buy the set and do it yourself? I can't imagine the cost of shipping a k-member from austria to the us and back.....

ChargerST

Shipping would be insane so I probably just get the kit or get it entirely done here in Austria (I know a good welder). I already have a skid plate (standard on 70 R/T) so basically I just need to get washers and fabricate the triangle pieces. My k-member looks to be in good shape..I don't think it needs any straigthening.

I didn't take out the K-Member as I decided to do everything when I rebuild my engine in a year or two. But it should work - just mark the exact position of the K-member before removing it!

Big Sugar

Oh I see....You could probaly build a temporary support across the inner fenders and remove the K member. But realistically for the extra work and unsuraty it's probably best just to pull the motor.

I don't think that you need a brace. When the LCAs and the steering box are removed the k-member only supports the engine. If you support the engine with a hoist or under the oil pan I don't see any comlications when you remove the k-member.

under the oil pan will dent it... I preffer the hoist idea with two plywoods across the fenders it should be enough.

or better than the hoist, SPANSETS and rachets
