Tipped over?

I just walked through the dining room to hear the wife yell in the other room.. She's sitting on the couch, watching TV, when all of a sudden our 9' tall (real) tree just FELL OVER...  :o

Yeah... What a mess....

THAT'S why I love a good artificial tree.

She's ok.. For some reason, even though I wasn't in the room, it ended up being my fault  :slap:

Funny thing is we set it up on Sunday.. it had been fine.. Damn defective trees. They don't grow'em like they used to.

dodgecharger-fan

maybe this will help with the case for an artificial tree:

Our artificial tree is 22 years old. Bought it for $99 at a boxing day sale.
It's never fallen over.
I don't get pine needles in my foot until August. No matter what kind of vacuum you have and how hard you try, one always hangs in there until you walk through, bare foot.

Here's a recent pic of it with just lights. Decorations went up later and I haven't got a picture of it yet.

The tree gremlin likes it.

Before I moved south My wife and me had a house with 10 foot ceilings. We always got a tree that would hit the ceiling. The first year there one of the cats knocked the tree over before it was decorated. I screwed 2 eye screws into the wall one into the window frame on the one side of the tree and another one on the other wall hidden next to a picture frame. I tied the tree into the corner of the room every year after that. Now we have a 2 foot fiber optic piece of junk.

Gotta have a fresh tree!!!!!! I clean everything anyways, so a few pine needles is nothing.

Besides,  we love the fresh Christmas tree/pine smell. :2thumbs: :yesnod: :yesnod:

P.S. We did have our scary incident years ago when our daughter pulled the tree over and then the glass topper broke in miniscule pieces around her........

NOTE TO PARENTS WITH TODDLERS: ANCHOR YOUR TREE AND KEEP GLASS ORNAMENTS PACKED UP TILL NEXT YEAR! ALSO TINSLE IS A KILLER FOR PETS!!!!  :Twocents:

Bummer about the tree falling over, I know the feeling.

It reminds me of a funny story from way back at my parent's house when I was about 12 or 13. We used to have a dog, "Tiger" that was a Shepherd/lab mix, & dumber than gravel. I've posted various stories about this mutt before, but not this one. When he was left alone, he loved to look out the window when he heard something or to see who was pulling in the driveway. It may have been loyalty, but I think he was really that he was hoping it was just someone who knew how to operate the can opener.

So one year my parents decided it would be nice to put the tree in front of the living room window so when it was lit you could see it from the street at night. My Dad knew the dog had a powerful tail, so he used screws to hold the stand firmly to the floor through the carpet. It looked great, but it also happened to be Tiger's favorite window. One night we came home, pulled into the driveway, & saw Tiger on duty looking for anyone trained in "metal receptacle food removal" & only a portion of the artificial Christmas tree.

When we opened the door, we were greeted by a very happy dog & saw that there were tree ornaments all over the floor, bent & missing branches, snapped strings of electric lights, & strands of garland dragged around the room.

My parents never put a tree in front of a window ever again.   :smilielol:

When Shelby was 2 1/2 she pulled the Xmas tree over. We were all sitting in the kitchen and heard a big crash. I ran out in the living room , worried about Shelby. She's standing there and says " Barbie did it " We got the tree back up and there was Barbie hanging in the tree by her hair.

Back when I was around 6 years old along time ago. I remember my parents going out to a neigthbor of ours and getting a tree for christmas. They set it up in the livingroom in the corner.  And after they had decorated it mom asked dad if it was okay like it was. He said sure honey it's okay, he went to get a cup of coffee and mom just turnt her back to say somthing to me and the tree fell over on her  :smilielol: :smilielol:. Dad came running to get the tree off of her and to see if she was okay. She was okay but alittle ouchy at dad though . I remember her saying to dad about what he had said to her afew minutes before it fell over.  :smilielol:

I wasn't even close to it either, heck she was more close then I was to the dang thing. Turns out the one metal leg on the base bent and left the tree go and  mom broke the tree's fall.

Yup mom and dad had that happen to them last year.  Scared the crap out of them as it happened during the night some time.  Dad told me and I started laughing my ass off.  Unfortunately, some irreplaceable ornaments were lost when the tree fell.  Sometimes humpty can't be glued back together again.

mine has never fallen over but our friends have cathedral ceilings in their house so they got some huge real tree, i woudl estimate it at 13-14 feet tall.  needless to say it fell over and it took 8 of us to stand the dam thing back up. ever since then i have my 9 footer tied with 4 ropes to the wall.

devilgear

About a month ago we just got a Great Dane puppy...We put the tree up and for the first time in years we decorated the tree to awesome status in my mind...I put 9 freakin strands of lights on the thing and 6 strands of garland...HAHA..Anyway 2 days after that my big little puppy gets under the tree and the got spooked and well you know what happens next...My wife called me at work frantic because she (being 5'2) could not put the 8' foot tree back up...HAHAHA....Stupid dogs....

jaak

Man, good thread.....brings back memories to me too. I remember when I was 12-13 we put up the tree, It was me my Mom and Dad, and my brother. We got it up, all decorated and just plugged up the lights to stand back and look at it. We were all four standing there and it just fell over, looked like it was in 'slow motion' tree just hit the floor... ornaments scattering everywhere! That was the year we got to put up the tree twice, LOL!

Old Moparz

We had a real tree the last few years, but dragged the artificial tree out this year for a few reasons. We also decided not to decorate the tree this year after just getting the lights on it.

The reason we aren't decorating it?

We have a new kitten, the one I posted in the pet thread, that decided the tree was "fascinating" enough to inspect. The kitten, "Jo-Jo" watched my wife & daughter assemble the tree. When my wife turned the lights on to make sure they were evenly spaced, the kitten used that moment leap off the foot stool & dive directly into the center of the tree.   :smilielol:

It was pretty funny, but we knew it would be a better idea not to hang ornaments.....I mean cat toys......all over the tree so when we are at work the cat goes nuts attacking them.

She stayed in the tree long enough for my daughter to get the camera.

That's an awewsome picture! That cat looks SO HAPPY to be in there!!!

MoparManJim

Um.. tree lover hay? or should I say tree jumper?

The cat does look funny in there though. How long before the poor fur ball fell out?

Old Moparz

I taught the kitten how to stay out of the tree. :D

Now it's decorated, but with unbreakable ornaments. The rechargeable Ryobi vacuum makes a wonderful training device. Now it sits under the tree & the cat stares at it while it walks past the tree & not climb it.
