Oh the road? going through tires? :o, nope, only had my car on the road afew times, 99.5 it set because it needs alot of work done to it. But seeing other cars with dub things on them really makes me wonder what people are thinking anymore though. You can say I guess that I'm old school.

I think the best looking chargers are the ones with low profile tires,,, I'm talking 17's, 18's not 22's but still. 2 say that they all look gay is crazy  :Twocents:. I had 15in cragars on my '69 and went with lowprofiles and love it. I'm 18 so maybe my opinion is a little biased  :nana:

Well, this is just me, but if I bought a charger with dub things on, I would ask the old owner to please remove them from the car because if I got them, I get red of them clown things and go with american looking stuff and go with what the cars would have had on that looks more right for the car and gives them more style and not more bling. Something about 18's and up to me just doesn't at all look right on cars. To me it looks like folks are trying to reinvent the wagons  but with a engine though this time around.

I can understand Jim,, since you've had ur car on the road forever and went through countless sets of wheels huh?  ;)

WHITE AND RED 69

When you get into the 20" and up they look bad but a nice set of 17or 18s look perfect in my opinion, and even some 19"s as long as they have at least a decent size tire on them.

I wonder if posting pix of large wheels is gay too?  :scratchchin:

Hmmm, maybe.  :shruggy:

Anyways, back to the matter at hand...

I agree with Mike about lowering the car, but I like the wheel/tire combo in 2nd pic of the 1st post.

Definitely dig the overall feel.  :2thumbs:

And RT is right, if you want big brakes, you gotta go with larger diameter wheels. :yesnod:

That 3D rendering is awesome.  Really well done.  I'd love to know more about the software & stuff you did it with.

BTW:  Look in a DVD copy of the 2005 "Dukes" movie and check the menu screens - they did a very accurate body rendering of the 2nd-gen.  Not all the textures & details are perfect but they really nailed the car's overall proportions.

Lostsheep

I liked all of the renderings. I have to admit, when I saw the black steel 15's white letters out, my jaw dropped. It looked really sinister!!!

The larger wheels On muscle cars certainly do fit the car, most guys against them are stuck in the 60/70's.............centerlines look so dated, black steel wheels look like they couldn't afford nice wheels, and just took off the hubcabs.......or are running the winter steel rims people put on their cars in the winter

On big cars like the charger...18's look great, as long as the tire is not Too low profile

My Vote is the second picture in first post, or a rim along those lines...........however I prefer more Chrome/polished aluminum..

But what ever you choose your the one that's gotta love it!

MoparManJim

No, we're not stuck in the 60/70's like you just said dude. We simply must more teast, and more style and not for bling like alot of folks well younger folks does now days. Besides with the bigger rims and small tires on a car or charger it just makes them loook alot like hotwheel toys you can say

Give me a charger with older style tires anyday over the new bling stuff.  :coolgleamA:

And that's why it's your choice on your car. :2thumbs:

Nothing wrong with thinking out of the box, like Gen. Patton said in my sig. line. :coolgleamA:

In regards to the "younger folks" comment, I like the over 15" look, and I'm not a youngster by any means.

Although my '70 will stick with 15"s, since she's staying stock, my '69 will be getting 18"s all around, or possibly 18"s front and 19"s rear.

I wonder how many folks that'll piss off? :scratchchin:

Does it matter?   :shruggy:

Nah, as long as I'm happy with 'em, who cares?

I always think outside the box, but I also go with style and teast and not with what everyone else is going with.  :shruggy:
It doesn't piss me off at all, but when one of those folks with bigger rim less tire hits something or there car buttoms out, they will be singing another tune more likely. Mama mopar put 15's on the charger for a reason  :2thumbs:.

When I mention younger folks, it's because that most young folks today on all kind of cars puts the biggest rim they can find on a car and with the less tire on the rim for what they call more bling. 18 inches is almost 2 feet of rim only, now 20 is only 4 inches off from being 2 feet as well . Now if you hit a bump (even ones that comes out of no where at times) more rim less tire. Something is going to take the blow real hard. With the original kind of rims on a car that was meant for it they have more tire on the rim and can take a good blow mostly without blowing out or hurting the rim or the car.

Big rim, less tire, means more likely more damage to the tire or rim, or more scary the car.

I only like some 15" wheels on musclecars.  steelies, magnum 500's, Nascar "D" hole wheels, and...well..nothing else.  Not a real fan of aftermarket 15's.  I also love 16,17, 18 inch on B body mopars.

I'm amazed that so many people are so tied to the old school look that they seem to have no room at all for anything bigger than a 15" wheel.  It's just more of a gray area to me.

don't get me wrong, I have seen some really hideous big wheels on our mopars.  By far the worst are the wheels they put on that new challenger/daytona clone thing, those are about as attractive as a chick who got hit in the face with a sack full of wood screws.  on the other hand, look at mr angry, autodynamics, and others who pulled off the big wheel really well.

the point is that bad taste can seen on both ends of the spectrum.

Is it safe to say... when I was 20... my first car had 15" wheels (pontiact Trans am 1987 GTA), my 2nd car (72 VH valiant charger straight 245ci hemi) when I was 21 had 15" wheels... when I was 22 I had a 1970 Dodge Challenger, original 383ci EF8 green 4 barrel big block car... 15" wheels.... now im 26 and I own a 1968 Charger... guess what? 15" wheels.

Im one of the young guys that says... if you buy muscle, keep it muscle... otherwise... buy a viper or nissans where rubber band tires work.

1st part, yes.

More chances an errant pothole or curb will juice your rim.

2nd part, no.

Less sidewall = less flex, which = more overall stability/control.

Opposite side of that coin though is if/when control is lost, you are less likely to be able to regain control.

And if you're looking for a "Z" rated tire, good luck finding any model tire (not meant for a Mini) for less than a 16" or 17" rim (this coming from my admittedly non-professional searching).

But, it really just comes down to what you're wanting out of, or makes you happy with your Charger.  :yesnod:

i see.. i'm 34 and not sure if i belongs to the younger/older guys  but i like um both.. my first idea was plane old black steelies without the centercaps.. i was inspired by the plymouth "Hammer" i saw @ Vegas at the strip a few years ago.. i liked the combo of those rims and a cewl muscle... so that's where my idea came from..

i'm busy making some more rims, but it takes some time  :scratchchin:

meanwhile a rigged the car so i can animate it  :coolgleamA: : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyDtAqwUR0g

Want to do a rendering for my car ?   haha    they look great man...      Mu car is white with a metallic gray stripe - I'll be running a metallic gray 5-spoke 18" wheel package...          If you care to do a rendering I would appreciate it   :2thumbs:

Still working on the wheels.. but here's a render.. not sure if you mean this r/t stripe color

dude... That is completely badass!!! I think those rims look good on that car  :2thumbs: the video you made is pretty sweet too!!

The big Wheel, low profile tire doesn't do it for me having said that I have seen some great looking 17 front, 18 rear car's like Mr Angry and Keepat's old Charger. My next wheels would be 17 front and 18 rear as long as I can swap back to my 15's. Also, I would have 50 series tires front and rear on the bigger wheels no rubber band tires  :Twocents:

I like it...I think the rims look great. The only thing I would say is stagger the size.It they are 20's in the back, go 18's or maybe 19's in the front.I think your render looks awesome...I am doing something similar with my 73...Keep up the great work...

Steve P.

Your 41 year old car IS OLD SCHOOL..... Tri-Black with Cragar S/S and RWL tires filling the wells is the only choice for me... Guys like Mike, (NYCMILE) have built their cars with huge brakes and NEED the 18" plus wheel size. I get it on those cars but I am personally MOT a fan of stage coach wheels... I think your car looks fantastic in the very first picture..
