When slow or trickle charging a battery, would it make a differance if the battery cables are connected or off? I would be using a "smart charger".

Leave the cables off if this will be long term. Always better not to keep power to the car electrical system, especially if its still old and anything can happen to 30 year old wiring.

I have a kill switch on the battery with a fused bypass. Will keep radio presets and dome/trunk light on if i need em.
