What size tip on my spray gun should I use to spray on paint?

Assuming its an HVLP gun. 1.3 tip will work best. But a 1.4 will do just as well, it will lay the paint down smoothly but you will have to move/spray a little quicker with it to avoid running paint. Remember, 50% overlap also.

 gravity fed  , 1.3 -1.5   HVLP,     suction fed  1.6  ,  i have painted all kinds of paint with these set ups

depending on what manufacturer the paint is ,  look up their web site , should have TDS  tecnical dater sheets , giving their recomended set ups

I use 1.5 and 1.7, 1.3 might be too small for spraying thick single stage paint IMO
