anyone know the stock Cr of a 1974 440?

the engine is 30 over and the guy i bought it from says he replaced it with stock Cr pistons

 Not going into the crazy stuff like deck height, heads CC's and head gasket thickness with a 30 over bore you should be at 8.53 to one. That is with a steel .0020 head gasket.

If you take the actual dimensions and do the math you'll find most '72 and later motors are .4 below advertised compression ratio; earlier motors are closer to .5 off.

how could you bring the compression up on a 74 motor?  what if you put in higher compression pistons? will you run into any  other problems?

A set of speedpro 2355 six pack replacement pistons will bring the comp up to 9.3-9.5 and that makes for a nice street engine.  ;D
