that's always sad to hear and I'm very sorry for their loss.

but.... My garage is detached, up to code, and has fire extinguishers... I try to be very careful because I would hate for one of you guys that live near me to be posting up this story :(

It may be a good idea to invest in one of those flame proof cabnets to keep your gasoline and painting supplies in. We have them here at the school and they seem to be a good investment to me.   :Twocents:

Wow, that's horrible. :o :rotz: :'( If you watch the video they show a car gas tank sitting in the driveway infront of the burnt out garage. Who knows what caused it. I wonder what kind of car they were working on....

Another reminder from another forum I am on. Someone was working under a car. Rear half was on jack stands. They were doing some rear end area work. Had a floor jack to do some lifting and didnt realize they had lifted the car off the stands and the front wheels started to roll forward. The car decided to stop and ease itself back onto the stands. This was seconds or inches away from death for that person if things had kept moving the way they were.

I had a tractor one time in my garage working on it have a fuel line issue and it dumped its tank out all over the floor. Maybe 5-8 gallons of gas all over. Serious amount of fumes in no time at all. I just opened the doors and walked away for a while.  Came back later and all was dry and back to work time. Any source of ignition. Spark from a wrench or a cigarette hanging out of your mouth could have instant problems. Even static could cause a problem in the right situation.

As a foolish youth, I was working under my stick shift mustang GT. I had it up on ramps in gear, but I didn't put the Ebrake on or shock the tires.  Of course I was working on the driveshaft and the car started to go with me under it.  I was lucky enough to see it happening and I reached up and grabbed one of the back wheels with both hands from under the car.  This stopped it from rolling.

Stupid kid mistake.... but I see people doing worse all the time.
