My desktop is a picture of what my is going to look like, because I have a long way to go.And I don't think I have that plug on mine, but I'll check and let you know.

super_dave

I don't know anything about this "mystery plug" discussion.  Love some details about it though.  The car is factory air if that has anything to do with it.

OK, so I've finally came up with a game plan that will work for me.  I had a good discussion with the shop yesterday after I told them two days ago this project was dying.  I had already priced out the metal from AMD and it was close to $6500.00.....wow :o.  After reviewing just how much work that is to get into primer, I was pretty intimidated.  Anyways, I made a great deal with the shop, they will get the car through metal into primer including the media blasting etc.. and I will have the shell to work on, and then I will spend probably a year putting it together.  I will paint the inside, underside and engine bay myself, and just plug away at the detailed stuff myself.  That is probably the more enjoyable work anyways, I will have a stroker built for it from a 69 440 block which is all original and figure out the rest as I go.  Definetly doing the 4 wheel disc package and suspension upgrades.  This is what I want the final product to be. :2thumbs:

Here's another option if you're interested:  http://www.uscartool.com/bodyinwhite/index.html   They want $17,500 for the shell in primer.  :shruggy:
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

I checked on my car and no I dont have that plug. :shruggy: It must be for some special option?

Well, I knew it was there the whole time :yesnod:  Just now starting on the project :yesnod:  Now I am intrigued about that mystery hole/plug on the fire wall.....hmmmm.

super_dave

Well, got a charger in a box now!  By February, I'll have it back through media blasting and primer.  So what sequence should I take with this restoration.  Whats the first thing to start on, suspension, drivetrai, brake package?  How about some good advice guys, want to start getting ready.  I need to start ordering parts for February so where do I start, I'm new at this you know  :scratchchin:

PocketThunder

First i would buy a couple boxes of one gallon ziplock bags and a sharpie marker and write down EVERYTHING as you take it off the car.   :icon_smile_big:

Then get the body down to the bare shell and start cutting out the rust, working on and replacing one panel at a time.  But go to the paint and body seciton for more thorough advice.  Many guys have many differnet ways to cut up a Charger to get to the end result.

Ok, we're making some progress.  Here's a quote from an email the shop foreman sent me couple days ago:

"You will notice that the body is amazingly solid in the critical areas of frame rails, cowl and even most area of the rockers. Strange. This will allow us to replace the floor first. Then inspect remaining rocker areas and end up with a solid foundation to continue. This car has clearly never been hit."

Thats the kind of news you don't mind getting.

Glad your saving one as well DAVE

I'm in Ontario as well but South of you in Sarnia(Michigan Border) & have my car in Bolton ontario(30 min North of Pearson Airport). If I did it all over I would've just bought a finished car as I'll be spending 50K I'm sure when it is all said and done. The only positive in it is I'll know what I have..no suprises & that it was done properly. Good luck! Who is doing some of the other work for you?

They just did final sanding & paint on my car & now it is back in Bolton but I thought the shop looked familiar :yesnod: They have a hefty rate but do awesome work & I have had my car at Shawns since early 2006. Most of the AMD stuff wasnt available when I bought the rust bucket.

super_dave

"Ok what left looks solid."

Point taken, but considering the age of this car, it's really amazing the condition, granted the floors were shot, but overall the structural parts offer a very solid foundation.

As far as title, thats pretty much buttoned up.
