Oily Motor

Hi. I have a '66 mustang customer project. One little nagging problem is the tube-type ventilation system on the 200 six. You know, the little cap on the front of the valve cover. The filter element on this little breather cap ends up soaked and eventually ends up spraying oil blow-by all over the newly freshened motor. So...should I just accept this, change the element, or convert it to a PCV? What to do?

How long does it take for the element to get to that point when changed?

Is the motor broken in yet?

Broken in? Oh yes. How long? Three years. Enough, I suppose. She is a customer that was out of the loop for a spell, but is now back under my care. I guess it goes without saying that when folks are broke, they let their cars go to pot. She's has a job now, so her funds are more solvent. I guess one has to stay after the element inside that cap and either clean or replace it periodically.

My '68 Valiant with a 225 had a similar problem, but with no replaceable element. I simply cleaned the breather and hose at every oil change and it was fine.

Sounds like a plan - thanks!
