Its a 72 Topper. What exactly is a topper? NADA doesnt list a topper? I talked with the owner. It was originally a 318 auto culumn shift. Now it is a 71 360, 727, column shift with an 8 3/4 w/391 gears. He says it is in perfect shape, runs like a scalded dog! Has a perfect interior, hounds tooth cloth bench seat, Rallye dash, clock removed and a Sun tach installed. Tach doesnt work. He removed the A/C and heater components years ago. I gotta have A/C and heat! That will have to go back on if I buy this car. And it has a March pulley set.

What do you guys think? Talk to me. Help me make a fair offer to this guy If I like the car.

Topper was a special deal that they ran ,kinda like the white hat special. More or less a sales promotion set-up.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

15,000 for a base model topper charger that is MOST LIKELY a 318 car originally is insanely overpriced.  If he put a hemi and a dana in it, I maybe would see it.. but it doesnt have the original drivetrain, its a base model charger, its GREEN... and well.. its a bench seat car too huh?  I would find a better place to spend 15,000 personally.

I am browsing for another 3rd gen. Kind of surprised at the prices considering the economy.
Not enough pics for me to give a fair opinion. Does he have any receipts showing the engine work he claims?
Does seem kinda pricey.

I think $15000 is kinda pricey as well. It is nothing special. I am going to see the car after work tomarow. I am expecting a super clean, rust free, straight bodied Charger with flawless interior and under hood, with a well built 360. That is how he described it. Tell me, what would a good price be? If it aint junk.

Pretty much like the video said, hideaways and a half-vinyl. It's not an SE though. SE had a different roofline and a full-vinyl and hideaways were standard. Most people assume a 72 with hideaways is always an SE, it's not. Toppers had them and some plain janes did too, as it was an option (code L37 on fender tag).

Ghoste

So ALL Toppers had them as part of that package?

hey... well, the body Job could come better. Your help was REALLY GREAT and the measures made to get a GREAT outer look, but the bodyman was a $***er when welding the patches WITHOUT DRAIN HOLES!!! I need a new body job on quarters, BUT GOT A NOS UNIT :D to make that. Will need also the inner patch with depresions to correctly set the drains

just 72s. 71s didn't get hideaways.

as stated by nakita, on 72 the hideaways were easilly to be optioned on any car, diff than 71s when you had to get SE, or  get a Bee-R/T to get hideaways option.

That must be the reason why mostly of hideaways conversions/upgrades comes from 72s units, with more vertical fins and no Dodge badge on hideaway door.

Okay, just so I am clear then, if you ordered a 1972 Charger Topper, it automatically got hideaways as part of the Topper package but only in the 72 model year.  Outside of that all the usual option requirements apply?

how much you end up paying for it?

Ya how much?   :popcrn:

Let me say the guy had a tear in his eye as I drove away with his Charger. He put a ton of money in it. The body and interior are sweet! The drivetrain is a top notch rebuild. I think it has more power than my aluminum headed, cammed 440 had. The 3.91 sure grip may be the difference though. It needs a lot of detailing under the hood and some fine tuning. Clean and detail the trunk, find a spare tire and wheel. And, solve all the electrical issues, lots of electrical issues. Put the heat and A/C back together.

There is no way I could have built the car to the point it is now for the money I spent. I figure he got back less than $.30 on his rebuild dollar.

I do feel a little badly about it, I did not low ball him though. That just aint right to do that to a guy who absolutely has to sell. I let him put the price on the car. And it was good.
