Indeed... this here is his driver Mopar... "just" a 69 Charger R/T SE.

I think that's both cool (from a find perspective) and sad...In my mind I'd prefer that those cars would be kept up, running, and being used.  Or at least they should be in an active project state...I think it's sad that they're just sitting there buried under boxes.  It kinda reminds me of a famous violin collector who actively sought out and purchased some of the most valuable violins in existence...and after gaining possession of them he would pile them up in his apartment completely neglecting them.  When he died, several millions of dollars' worth of Stradavarius violins were found stuffed under his bed, out of their cases, strings and parts broken.  Neglected, broken...silent.

A classic Dodge is like a Stratavarius.  They both are capable of making some of the most beautiful music in the world...but only if they're loved, cared for, and used as intended.  Both are useless and cannot contribute to the beauty of the world when stashed away and neglected.  They don't belong hidden from the sun, stuffed under a bed or boxes.

It's hard to go against my beliefs and say this...but the most important thing, though, is that they bring him enjoyment on his terms--even if they're just sitting in his barns.  I'd love to see him get them all running and on the street again.  I'd hate to see them deteriorate further.  I'd also hate to see the collection get broken apart and/or sold off.

I wonder if he could get in touch with a museum or other non-profit enthusiast organization and come to some sort of agreement with them to get them restored to running condition and be put on the street somehow.

I did ask... many times... if he would adopt me, or atleast let me live there.  He declined.

There is a nice little flat spot next to a stream, surrounded by cars rotting to the ground that I would love to tent some time.... or live there.

Johnny SixPack

Ryan, that '70 R/T SE, was the end of the VIN a 900 #?

I have pix of this car, but was told that it was a 440 Six-Pack auto car.  :shruggy:

Here's the pic I have:

The guy I got the pic from swore that it was one of the 'Chicago 10', or whatever they were.

I'd have to see the tag for sure, but that's what I was told.

Either way, it's cool you guys found that '70 again.

QuoteYou can't blame him for not selling any of it though. Would you!?!?

Actually yes i would!! Personally i would have picked one or two that i would restore, and sold the rest. That way i would have time, money and space to restore the " chosen ones".  The driver i would ofcause keep  :D
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

Devil,

Do me a favor a let's be very, very careful with this man's identity and his location.  I was out at his place for the first time back in 1996 and was equally amazed with his collection.  He is a really nice guy but isn't exactly the type who I don't believe wants a lot of attention brought to him or his collection.  The reason that I'm saying this is that while there are many of us who truly appreciate this hobby, there are many, many more who I feel would look at this as a way to score cars and or parts just to turn around a make a buck (that's what I feel is wrong with things like Ebay - it started off as a great way for someone to 'clean out his garage' and at the same time help someone clear across the country obtain something that they have not been able to find locally - but now it's all about someone buying a $10 item not because he needs it but because he can turn around and list it himself and sell it for $30 and so on and so on).  This gentleman has helped me in the past by selling me a few things and he was very reasonable with his pricing.  He didn't try to 'jab' me just because he had it and I needed it.  In fact, there were a couple of small items that he just gave me!!  I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but if his name and location gets spread all over the internet, I'm afraid that he will be getting phone calls and visitors from people who are looking for Ebay items, etc - not from people like us who are truly interested in his collection because of our love for old Mopars.   I can't see him wanting that.  He is smart enough to know what he has and when or if the time comes to 'reduce his inventory' he is very aware that he wouldn't have any trouble getting rid of it!!  O.K. - I'll climb down from my soapbox now.

I've been to this barn dance a few times.

His name will/has never been released by anyone in this party.  Nor will it.

All the vin's have been photochopped to only view the first few digits for clarification on what the car is.

All license plates have been photochopped, so no way to track this through the DMV.  (Except for Scott's Superbird, my Challenger, etc... but I think we're OK with that).

I make sure in my blogs with the writings and pictures to keep the person who I'm writing about safe.  He has and will only be known as "our host" or perhaps "Dad" if the adoption goes through.

He was a very nice person, It was an honor to meet him.  I don't want to cause him any problems, nor does anyone else in this expedition.

Cool, Ryan, very cool.  I'm glad that you got to take one of his 'tours'.  It was definitely something that I will never forget!!

Maybe, maybe not. I'd rather see one guy hording them for years inside a dry building than seeing several idiots, wrecking them, abusing them and leaving them out in a field somewhere to rot. At least these cars are complete and can pretty easily be brought back given the condition in which they've been kept.

That's the other end of the spectrum...I too would rather see them in storage than being abused and abandoned.  Cars like these should be used, but they should also be lovingly used and cared for.

I tried ducking into a pile of 426 Hemi Parts... but with my constant screaming of what I found, they found me fairly quickly.

That is one awesome collection, I am sure those cars are fine where they are. He has his own supply of NOS parts and everything else in between. Often times I find people in general get a little jealous that someone has all those cool cars and parts...........I am happy for him.I would have done the exact same thing as him if I had come across any part of that collection :icon_smile_big: :Twocents:
