Hello from Germany...

Congratulation for this great forum and the great people here  :2thumbs:

My 71 Charger is back from restoration....a lot of work...a lot of hours... but now the better time begins...the time to put all the parts together

My problem is....I want Torq Thrust wheels 15x8 in front and 15x10 rear....and I search...and search...and search... but I cant find and I dont know, what Backspace and Offset I need for this wheels.

The size of the tires are 245/60/15 and 275/60/15.

Please, excuse my bad english....schooltime is so far away

Best regards from the black forest

Nobody here, who can send me the size from Backspace and Offset??? Or is my question to silly???? :'(

Best regards

Michael

My brother uses 5" backspace on the rear with a 15x10 and a 275 tire. Up front he uses 4" backspace on a 15x8 with a 235 tire.

if you search for backspacing you will find a large number of threads on the topic.....
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

Yes....I found them all....  :icon_smile_big:

My problem is....if I buy Torq Trust 15x10 with Backspace 5.5.....what Offset must this wheel have???? Be shure...the last two days I searched several hours here.  :'(

I want to order:

15x8   4.5 BS  0 Offset with 235/60
15x10 5.5 BS   0 Offset with 275/60

I must ask in a U.S.-Forum...in Germany we have a lot of specialist for Porsche, Mercedes, BMW.....but not for US-Goldies  :yesnod:

Best regards

Micha

I think you are just confused about the terms backspace and offset.  They are essentially different methods of describing/measuring the same thing.  On a 10 inch wide wheel, 5 inches of backspace is the same as 0 offset.

Backspace:   The measured distance from the hub face to inside lip of the wheel.
Offset:  the difference from the center of the wheel to the hub face.

If you know one of these measurements, you can do a mm->in conversion to figure out the other.

ok...sorry about that....it's been discussed quite frequently is all....the link that Mr.Woolery posted should give you all the information you need to measure it exactly. :2thumbs:

Mr.Woolery

I seem to recall that on 3rd gen Chargers, the most backspace for a 10" wheel that could be run was 5.25", which on a 10" wheel equates to an offset of -6.  This was when running 295 width tires.  I've heard of 3rd gen people running 15x10 wheels with backspacing ranging from 5.25" to 4.75"....though I'd think that the 4.75" wheels would protrude from the wheel wells a lot and require the car to be raised pretty high to prevent fender rubbing.

I notice that you're looking to put 10" wide with 5.5" backspacing wheels on the rear of your Charger.  I've heard that is too much backspacing and could cause rubbing on the leaf springs on stock 3rd gen Chargers.  You'd have to mini tub or convert to an aftermarket rear suspension setup if you want to run that much backspace.

For what it's worth, I plan to install 16x10ET-6  (aka 5.25" backspacing) on my '71 Charger and run 295/50/16 tires at some point.

DISCLAIMER:  The fitment info in this post is secondhand knowledge for me...I have not tested it personally, so I cannot vouch for it's validity.  It's based on what I've read in other topics on this forum.  Your fitment may vary depending on factors such as ride height, variations in build, etc.

Ahum... 5.5" backspace = 0 offset on a 10" rim... Remember a 10" rim is 10" on the inside, but is actually 11" in overall width.  :icon_smile_wink:

monkele

Thanks everybody...
I hope I understand it right..... Offset is in Germany "Einpresstiefe".... and with a 5.5 Backspace I have the 0 Offset.... and I can use this wheel with 275/60 without rubbering etc...... means... I put it on the car and I can drive it  :icon_smile_big:

So its better I buy 15x10 with 5 Backspace.

Know anybody a dealer who have these wheels without 8-12 weeks delivery?????  (Torq Thrust or Cragar SS)

Thanks a lot to all

Best regards from rainy Black Forest

To me, offset is kind of irrelevant on these cars unless you're going way big and have to be very careful on both sides. A lot depends on the look you want. Do you want the outer edge of the tire to sit very close to the quarter panel wheel lip or are you simply trying to avoid the tire rubbing on the spring?

And I want to ask Mr. Woolery something. Maybe I'm wrong or reading what you wrote wrong but I think backspacing is the measurement from the back face of the hub to the most extreme back edge of the wheel. In other words, you lay the wheel face down, put a straight edge across the back edge of the wheel and measure the distance from there to the back of the hub. Is that what you're saying?

Ok. I think it's when you wrote "inside lip of the wheel" that threw me off. I guess I was thinking you meant the inboard bead seat and I couldn't figure out how (or why) anyone would do that, especially with any accuracy. Anyhoo, we're good. :2thumbs:

Thanks a lot to everybody.....

I tried to order the Torq thrust....but the time for delivery is 8-12 weeks...shipping to Germany another 4 weeks.... :brickwall:

So I look for other wheels and found the Centerline..... Time for delivery are 2 weeks....

What do you think....????

Thamks to all...the Centerlines are ordered now...it takes 4 weeks and another 4 weeks to ship to Germany. I hope I am able to put the "1000 pieces" from my Charger together.

Worst case...If not....is here an Expert for 71 Charger who wants to make "holydays" in Germany

Hello Michael!

Welcome to the site. I wish I could write in german as well as you write in english!
I'd love to visit the Black Forest, rainy or not but the bankers have cost us most of our hard earned money.

When you get your tires/wheels mounted please post some pictures for us. Cheers.

@SG1022....I bought the car in April 2009 and start the restauration in May 2009. Thanks for writing German :-)

@Twodko....you are welcome....and believe me...we have the same situation here in Germany. The bankers here always cost the working people a lot of money.

@Mario.... Danke...da werde ich gleich mal reinschauen.

Best regards

Michael
