Well, I took my car to a scale today just to see how heavy it really is....3,680lbs without me in it.   :2thumbs:  For the longest time I've figured it was around 4000lbs and now I know.   The guy at the scale said it was within 20lbs of the true weight.    Not bad at all for a big block car I think.    :2thumbs:

Weight reports are always interesting IMO.

Can you guys be more specific about the options & conditions of the car at the time of these weights?

motorcitydak

did they break it down for you to the weight on each corner? I really want to know the weight on the front and rear wheels so I can figure out roughly where my center of gravity is so I can build my rear 4 link rite

A certain Mr. Administrator & I in the Charger at I think 4300# & change.  Half tank, Gear Vendor tranny, good size sub woofer, couple amps, power windows (all 4 work), rear defroster.

It now has bigger wheels & tires, Cal Tracs & the frame is tied.  Good gravy, I wonder where I'm at now.  :shruggy:

Roughly about the rear most part of the engine block, right about camshaft height.

Hey Greenpigs,   My car is a factory non vinyl top car, no A/C, no spare tire or jack in the trunk and about a 1/2 tank of gas.   It had power drum brakes and converted to manual disc.  32in Griffin alum. radiator which may be lighter but the extra water it holds may make it more.   Driver remote mirror, AM radio, bucket seats with floor shifter, power steering and I think that's it.    :scratchchin: :shruggy:  Oh, it's a early model 68 so no shoulder belts.   I do have the front GL pushbar that adds 20lbs or so.   Oh, my car has all the original sheet metal and not 400lbs of bondo like Jeff's "jb666" car did.   :nana:     Motorcitydak, I'll go back over there today and get the weight of all 4 corners, front and back.   :2thumbs:    I'm thinking the front was like 1750 or so but I'll go back and check.   I would like to know as well.     ;)      Chuck...............

I weighed my 70 Charger R/T and it came out to 3930 and 4110 with me in it and a full tank of gas. It is a 440 6-pk with Eddy heads, aluminum manifold, and 4 speed with Dana 3:54.

And I bet that if you want your wife to know you said that, you'll tell her yourself?

It is incredible how many of the same car can weigh in so far from eachother. I think Ron said his BLACK PIG toughed it out at around 4100 pounds. His is a very complete car with 8 point cage but has all the aluminum in all the usual places...

I would like to see what the 4-corner scales have to say on all. "dreamin"... :scratchchin:

A few years back HOTROD did a CADDY TEAR/WEIGH OFF at a drag track. They took a full blown caddy with all the bells and whistles to the track and did time trial after time trial. After each pass they removed heavy useless parts of the car and made another pass. They repeated this till they ran out of sunlight. I don't remember now how much they removed or how much faster the car got, but it was VERY interesting and made a huge difference in speed.
Along these same lines, we remove much weight and replace it with aluminum. At the same time the aluminum parts are not only lighter but they make the engine stronger. Think of the cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds we toss out and replace with aluminum intake and tubular headers... Big power difference and weight difference.  I think the iron to aluminum waterpump housing change was good for 7-8 pounds alone. Then we take our (5) heavy wheels off the car and put (4) light wheels back on. Aluminum heads, radiator and toss out the jack. Most don't think about how heavy a POWER STEERING system is compared to NON-POWER, BIG.....
