Cool, what Hemi are you guys putting in it?

GeneralLeeTESH

Yes-the car is an original. It has a fiberglass front set of fenders and hood and the trunk is fiberglass also ! It is an original race car with the MOPAR 10 point roll cage still in it !Jimmy is going to put in a racing 1956 354 HEMI. These perform a lot better than the 426 (head flow) and easier to get parts for/rebuild-Thanks to www.hothemiheads.com

GeneralLeeTESH

look at the forward-Spring mounts, which are set 4 inches inwards for more tire-ONLY GSS cars came with this ! Bob Peterson confirmed this, while car was on my lift !

Hi Guys - GSS cars did not come with that stuff. It was a 383 Dart GTS that Hurst-Campbell put the 440 motors in for Chrysler - That's it. Mr. Norm did sell some fibreglass hoods that a local guy made as a dealer installed option. Anything else is probably early owner mods.

The '68 440 Dart was a Grand-Spaulding exclusive - Mr. Norm had to commit a 48 unit order to Chrysler.

Chrysler shipped 383 Dart GTS less engine and trans and separate (stamped) 440's and 727's to Hurst-Campbell for them to put the engine-trans into

All were Automatics.

In '69 it was no longer a Mr. Norm's exclusive and Chrysler did it as a 100% production line car - No Hurst-Campbell - Mr. Norm still sold most of them anyway.  :icon_smile_big:

Is there paperwork or a buildsheet that proves it is a GSS?

I had a '68 GSS and I also started and ran Mr. Norm's club so I know these cars intimately.

Jim, I dig the way you operate. Nice to have a savvy historian onboard!

Its VIN is :  LS23P8B118787

This decodes as a 1968 DART  GTS  340  4 speed race car  !!!

It decodes as a '68 340 Dart GTS - 5513 made - 1281 4 speed, 4232 Automatics. The GSS cars were all 440's LS23M8B. The only race cars were Super Stock Hemi's LO23.

Good luck with the project.

Yeah, me too.  Pleasure to read any of his posts as he's not too full of himself like some here.

Seems like a pretty cool car on it's own w/o previous or future mods but it's not mine.
My buddy just sold (gave away) his '69 Dart GTS, 383, 4 gear to get into a new Challenger.  :rotz:
They're cool little cars, factory hot rods.

If you could substitute enthusiasm for sanity you'd be golden.  Thanks for keeping us entertained   :2thumbs:
