I need to insulate my ductwork in my crawlspace and just wondering has anyone done this or do this for a living and got any tips what to use and so on?  found some ductwork insulation online and at Lowes/Home depot to do it myself but wanted to know more insight before starting this project. any tips on what to use, clean it with, seal the joints up with and so fourth?

I had to insulate some ductwork a few years back, and I used high-heat silicone to do the joints, then wrapped those with duct tape when they dried. I bought some 8" insulated wrap (looked like attic roll insulation, but only 8" wide instead of 18-24") and wrapped the ductwork with that and it helped a lot. I shopped at a local hardware store (Montigney's in Ravenna, OH, FYI, NE Ohioans) but I'm sure HD or Lowe's would have it.

Another guy, after I was finished, said next time if I had to do that, to wrap whole newspaper sections around the ductwork, duct tape them, and THEN do the fiber-wrap. What I did was great, though.

Hope that helps.

Hey BigRed66,

thankx for the info but I was leaning more towards the newer stuff I guess I should of said that before. I lookin to use Mastic sealant on the joints to seal them up since duck tape doesn't stick forever  :'(  and then going with Duct Wrap or aka Reflectix  more or less like bubble wrap but reflective and and is in like 7 layers in under an inch or something like that. it just says when used use spacers every 6 to 8 inches or if with the more spendy spacers 24 inches or so.

Has anyone used Reflectix?  :popcrn:
