Apologies if this is a repost.

Bids up to $14k for a wasted 68 R/T? Must be the SE emblem. Sure it comes with most of the original documentation and it's numbers matching but I don't think I'd ever pay what it's going for right now. Would you?

WOW! .....Makes me not feels so bad about my Rusty bucket.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

It's been discussed - although I don't think it has its own thread. That car is fairly loaded for a 68, it's numbers matching, and it has a ton of documentation. Dunno where they came up with the SE or slap stick information.

Fender Tag Breakdown:
Dark Racing Green, green interior, white top, white stripe, R/T, 440, 727, 3.23 Sure Grip, A/C, 26" radiator, power disc brakes, rear window defogger, AM radio, console, bucket seats, hood turn signals, driver's side remote mirror, and F70x14 Redline tires.

I like it.  It's got that original theme about it.  Hard to find stuff like that.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I would suspect that the buyers may be more interested in it for the numbers and documentation. I smell a re-body project.

What am I missing? It doesn't look nearly as rusty as some of the cars that have been built on here. It also looks reasonably complete (exhaust tips, A/C, interior, trim, etc.). I have cars worse than that and they aren't nearly as rare.

I agree, it looks like a great candidate for a restoration....pretty complete, and not totally rotted out, but to agree with Bull, I think its a hefty price tag for it....I couldn't drop that much to start a project.

We'll see if the $16K was a non paying bidder, but I think that is a lot for that car. Add a very conservative $20K to restore the car yourself and your at $36K without adding a dime for your time/labor.

I don't know, it would be a nice car if you want to buy a project, but we've all seen pretty nice and complete cars selling for around $36K these days.    :Twocents:

I'd totally pay $5,000 for it.  I got the R/T on the left for $20,000 on Craigslist, and it sat there for a month.  88,000 miles, numbers matching, and it's my daily driver, now.  Someone actually agreed to pay $16,000, but look what these clowns are asking for their Chargers:

Imagine that, a "0" feedback buyer won the auction.

i think the type of people that the financial downturn scared away from muscle cars were more likely 'investors' as opposed to 'enthusiasts'.

You're not missing anything, it's a great candidate for a restoration. I just think it's a pretty rough start for $16k.

472 R/T SE

Wasn't insinuating you Curtis, myself actually.  Just repeating your for sale ad.

I didn't really know who you were referring to but I didn't think it was me. Anyway, the biggest clowns I've crossed paths with are the ones I've hired to do work on the Charger over the past four months. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,59486.0.html

I dont know about the rest of you but I love my job as a "clown" in this circus!  Going around and around on my car fixing things is my definition of fun....
Restoring a charger is like a saying I heard along time ago "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it".... Jesus I wish I could remember who said that...

charger_fan_4ever

Kinda steep I think

In the past few weeks there have been numerous 68-70 r/t projects come up in the $5-8k range.
