Is the Dodge Demon the forgotten A body?

On this site anyway.  It occurs to me that we never really talk about the Demon and that has always been one of my favorite A-bodies.  I've never owned one I'm sorry to say but have always liked them.
Anybody here have a Demon in the garage they haven't shared with us?

tricky lugnuts

I wish.

Went down into the deep hollers of West Virginia last year to check out a (faded) bright red Demon, 318, with black stripes. Guy wanted way too much for it and it needed a lot of metal work in my opinion.

I'd love to get one - probably one of the only other Mopars that I'd CONSIDER getting rid of my Charger for, given the right setup, like a 340 four speed.

Sorry Ghoste, i'm just not feeling it.   :-\

Now a Y body on the other hand..  :drool5:

The DEMON name didn't last long either becuase of pressure from religious groups so Dodge changed it.

I also like the A bodies and have never had a Demon but did build a 440 4 speed 71 Duster and currently have a 70 Duster which I have a turbocharged /6 in but also have a 340 and the pieces to convert to a 4 speed which I was considering doing if I do not sell it first.

My favorite colors were Plum Crazy and Lime Green.

had a 72 demon with a /6 in it for a tad.. it was nice, but the smallness (<---sp?) never did catch on to me as I have always like the room of a b body.

Back around 7 years ago or so, I saw one for sale, it was B5 blue with blue interior, slant 6/auto. Old car ran well and was in Pretty good shape for its age. I could have bought it for $600, but I passed on it. Now I wish I would have bought it.

if i got an A-bod it would have to be a Demon... a 340 fourspeed in blue or purp w. white int. is my ideal a-bod...
some of the others are cool like the darts and such,.. even the second gen Bacarudas but first choice is a Demon.

Agreed, I had a chance to buy one with all that, but it was black with red interior....

But If I bought it, I wouldn't have my Charger. I still am happy with my choice.

I think the Demon carries that extra esteem due to the limited production run.  In all honestly everyone knows the Demon was forced to graduate into the "Dart Sport"  :rotz:, but that just helped seal the fate of wicked little A-body.  Something about the graphic packages and the tail panel just really set right with the car.

I'd like to have one, but they are hard to come by due to the model year restrictions.  I passed up a 72 bc it didn't have a clean title and needed lots of panels replaced.  Despite all the work it would have needed I still had a hard time passing it up..I'd be cruising it primered up right now if the title hadn't been an issue...the rust was like the poor man's version of acid dipping, lol.

That said I am fortunate to be able to enjoy my Duster!  Once the Charger progresses I might look into getting an OD set up for the car...Those 4k+ highway trips are starting to take a toll on me.

You're right, but you seldom hear much about the Dart Sport either.  Lots about the Dusters but not much on the Dodge.

My 20 year old is saving up for one now, if anyone hears of any let me know.  :2thumbs:

I had a '71 Winchester Gray 340-4spd - Sold it and later picked up a Curious Yellow (That is one eyeball searing color) '71 340-4spd, Bench with factory fresh air hood and Go-wing. I love the 2 year only name and who can't resist the Demon logo?

Here is my current one which is now apart, getting a resto...

Love that gray color, a good friend did a 71 GTX i believe, total resto, stunning car!

maxwellwedge

Yup - Nice color - It would look gray, green, blue, silver depending on the lighting and angle.

Funny you should say that Ghoste. i saw a Demon in my neighborhood the other day. Pretty decent shape too, haven't made my way back over to get a closer look.
I'd rather die than go to heaven.

Maxwell is that glossy black hood stock?.. I thought they were all flat...  :2thumbs:  :popcrn:

Dodge Don

I always liked them. Love the tail panel, hood and emblem but I never cared for the grille or the side stripes. I still like them but for me, when all is said and done I still think the 71 Duster 340 wins in the looks department.

bull

I'm not a big fan of the Duster body style anyway but I think the Demon additions (Dart front clip?) make it look better. I haven't forgotten it. :2thumbs:

You are right - someone painted it glossy on the yellow one - The gray one is Organosol which is the right finish. The yellow one is apart awaiting its turn for a resto - it will be Orgonosol when it's finished! A few cars ahead of it in the line at the moment.
