Hi Guys -

I'm in the process of looking for a car to replace my desperately aging old van and I was thinking about a used Magnum SRT8. Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm looking for and SRT ONLY - not an R/T or SXT. If I'm going Magnum I'm going for the big gun.

I'm not over concerned about mileage (I know they only get about 18mpg combined), but I am concerned with opinions on problems, longevity, recals and so forth.

I have found a few, most recently a 2006 with 20k on the clock being sold by the original owner with full documentation. Car is still under factory warranty with 7 year / 100,000 extended. I just have to check however if that transfers over.

So - I need honest opinions! Whatcha' all think? :smilie_help:

Just 6T9 CHGR

Anything with an SRT-8 is gonna be fun you know that....only thing youhave to remember that hotter the mill the harder it gets beat on :Twocents:

PS---how about a Jeep GC SRT-8?  :drool5:

I actually thought about the Jeep, but the ride is WAY to harsh for me. The Magnum is much more comfortable for me as far as seating and has more storage room as well.

Isn't the whole RWD Charger/Magnum/300 platform turning out to be a turd in the reliability categories?

I have the 05 Mag RT  5.7 no issues so far 55,000 miles rides great on those long trips in a short time. One problem is do not park the front end on any curbs front valance will sit on most of them.  So I usually back in when ever possible.

Hey Mike, I'm not sure if you know about this site: http://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-magnum-60/
It seems to be a good place for honest knowledge about things like reliability/build quality. I've used it alot in the last couple of years to analyze my '06 Dakota. If you look around the site abit, it has forums for (all?) things Dodge.
Good luck! :2thumbs:

not in my experience. I know guys that have had their 05-06 cars since they were new (so they're 4-5 years old by now) and most haven't had major problems.

Mike - I'd go to www.LXforums.com and ask around there. You'll get better/more info on the maggies than you will here.

I've not had any problems with my 06 RT Daytona but I'd be amazed if you can get 18 mpg overall out of an SRT 8.  My wife enjoys the new Charger enough that she bought an 08 SXT with the 26H package.  She wanted most of the creature comforts but not the V8.  No problems with it.

Love my 05 Maggie R/T.  If I could keep my foot (hand) out of it the mileage might be better.

yeah, it's all in how you drive it (give me a prize for being Captain Obvious ;D).

I know guys with SRTs that have done quite a few performance mods and still get 25-27mpg on the hwy. Some of those mods themselves (like the Diablosport Predator) actually help improve your mileage.
