Anyone Know Where This Wire Goes?

Does anyone know where this blue wire goes? It looks like a little mini ballast near the manifold and has 2 wires coming off of it. The red wire runs to the choke on the carb. I think the previous owner had the blue wire running to one side of the ballast resistor on the firewall. Any ideas? Thanks.

My guess would be that somebody added the resistor to slow down the electric choke opening.

The double blue wire on one side of the ballast is the IGN1 ignition circuit, battery voltage whenever the key is in the run position.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

the 440 i just acquired had that too......It went into the trash....lol

It LOOKS like some sort of resistor due to the ceramic....I looked in several wiring diagrams and I can't find exactly what it is....Hopefully someone here will recognize this part and its purpose.....sorry

I 've seen it before I think it was on a 440 with the Themoquad carburetor maybe?

if it is on your 71- electric choke wasn't used until 73.  but the blue wire goes to the same dark blue wire as the ballast resister.  that unit has a builtin thremostatic switch with the resistor.

:iagree:

the ballast is to change the voltage as far engine bay gets hot. Thats the way DOUBLE STAGE electric choke control units work
