My wife came home this morning with the news that her work just laid off 25 people. She is still working, but she has to move from the night shift to the afternoon shift. :eek2: The company lost some contracts so the work load went down. If they don't get more contracts, there may be more layoffs by October and the company may shut down. We are crossing our fingers.

We're hoping everything works out for you too. Earlier this year my wifes work had some layoffs, she was down to 32 hours a week. Then they did some more layoffs and now she is working 40 hours a week, but doing 2 jobs. At least she still has a job. We hope all works out for you two.

I recently went to dinner where half of the dozen folks in attendance have been laid off in the past two years.
What was more alarming was none of the six have yet found another gig this is in spite of some pretty impressive work and Ed. credentials.

I'm an electrician  and work has been very slow here too.  People are afraid to spend money right now.....I couldn't count how many jobs here in South Texas alone have been lost.   What pisses me off to no end  is the crack dealer who never goes out of business, never gets laid off, and never pays taxes while the rest of us bust ass to make an honest living!!!

someon just told me at work that "we" gave 2 BILLION to Brazil for oil drilling or something, please tell me "we" aren't that stupid

Im in the same boat as your wife. I got laid off a couple of weeks ago. Ive been trying to get on with AT&T since the day i was let go. They have done all my pre employment screenings. AKA applications, technical tests, physical, drug screen, background check. Im going nuts because I havent heard anything back yet. The person with the company thats trying to help me get on board said not to worry. It took him two months before he finally got to start.
Just wish my unemployment would kick in before all my bills come due again. It wont be much, but it will help.

Good luck to everyone in the same boat. This country is going to shit too fast.

Maybe a change in occupation is in order...

On a serious note the crack dealer business has other threads that (in my opinion) are more dangerous to one's health than being laid off. Otherwise I would have gotten into that business a long long time ago ;).

It is rough out there right now.  I was laid off last summer from a job I had for ten years.  I found a new job paying half what I was making.  And then in April my new job closed their doors too.  There is not much out there to pick from.  I started to go back to school in January to finish my degree.  In another year I will have my high school teaching degree.  Good luck.

My spouse is a stay at home mom, daycare is stupid expensive.  Depending on the age of the kid, in-home daycare is about $250/week, daycare centers are $300/week.

Well I am self employed,  my boss tried to fire me yesterday... it was a mess.. :slap: :D :shruggy:

I guess, there are pros and cons to working for yourself or working for others.... I am just glad for myself but really feel for those who at any moment,  that in this economy has to be stressful.

Best of luck to you and her, and hope things pick up.

Bout the same as here.  My wife is a self-employed CMT (certified message therapist) she works 4 days/week, even at 4 days we still pay close to $200/week.

The last time I got laid-off, I took a government job and have been working since.

General_01

I remeber those daycare years. That was brutal. Not sure if my wife would like doing daycare. Can't be any more stressful than wondering if your gonna be out of a job in a month.  :scratchchin:

Depending on what happens, going to college might be an option for my wife. Glad you went back even if you didn't have much choice. I think I saw an ad yesterday that a local Community College is offering half price tuition if you have been laid off. :scratchchin: Thanks again everyone. :2thumbs:
