Well today is the day that I officially start college after a 23 year break, I decided that it was time to do something for myself instead of waiting for Chrysler to start shutting down dealers again and put me out of work, I have been peddling auto parts long enough, it time for a change, so back to school to get the education that I was to stupid to get right out of high school, needless to say I am scared to death, didn't get any sleep last night and the butterflies are spinning about 5000 RPM so it is going to be a long day. :P :P :P :P

Congratulations!  I graduated High School in 1979 and went in the Navy for 10 years.  I got out and worked construction as a laborer for about 8 months.  I got layed off and decided to go to college.  I was scared to death and probably didn't get a good night sleep for a month before I started.  I found after I started I had more real world education than the majority of my class mates.  I was amazed to find many of the people in my classes had never been out of Illinois, let alone visited other countries.  What you have learned all those years on the job, the other students can't buy.  I wish you the best of luck, but I know you will be just fine.  Bye the way, I am no rocket scientist.  I was a "C" student in high school and I graduated with honors from college, with a bachelors of science.  If I can do it, anyone can!

I've been back at it for 8 months after 15 years. I almost ran out of time for my GI Bill. I forced myself into fulltime while also working a fulltime job. It will be tough, but as previously stated real world experience will make things a bit easier for you. Just keep an open mind and give it a full effort and you will be happy. Cheers man!

OK, so Martian, how was your first day of class? Did you make any new friends? Did you play nice with the other kids?  :nana:

First off I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement, it has been a long and difficult process deciding to go back to school,I never did like high school and that's a big reason that I didn't go to college back then, but with everything that has been happening with the economy and job market plus Chrysler on shaky ground, it seemed like the best option would be going back to college, I am going to a local community college they have six campuses around town, the one that I am going to is between work and home so its easy access, this semester I am taking algebra and writing, I have classes 4 days a week, as for a major I am undecided, I am just getting the core classes done for now, then later on I will transfer to the University of Arizona to get a degree, and I had forgotten about the co-ed's holy gorgeous batman, there are some real cuties in my algebra class, but writing class not so much, in fact a couple are quite scary, but everything went well and I am sure things will work out, although I did remember how much I hate grammar ( verbs, subjects, nouns and such ) they suck just as bad as I remember in high school.  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:  :2thumbs:

you arent lieing, I  am looking for work with a masters

college isnt that scary man, just remember to review, its a proven fact, read a chapter, review it for 10 minutes, then review it the next day, then the next week, then the next month, and when you review it 3 months later, it will lock in your long term memory, it sounds like a lot, but if you add it up its like an hour extra for a book and you will NEVER forget it, everyone will think you are a robot =0)

twodko

Hey Martin,

Good for you buddy! Sleeper has a great study regimen but everyone finds what works for them. For me its was taking copious notes and reading, reading then more reading. However, it is hard to concentrate when you're knee deep in a thong wearing target rich environment. I was awful in HS myself.......more interested in girls, cars and partying. It wasn't until I got out of the Navy that I truly appreciated what an education meant. While I paid for it with 6 years of service, the old G.I. bill paid for all of my college expenses. I would love to go back to school for a masters. It'll be like everything else......after the first day it will be "old school". Couldn't resist that! Good luck.

It is good to hear that you decided to go back to college to further your education.  A lot of quality people just are not having much luck with the bad economy, so the best bet is to stack the chips on the side that might help you land a good job.  If you diversify your educational assets (taking well-rounded classes), it will prepare you for more jobs than you think.  After a bit of a job-hunt (many months :icon_smile_blackeye:) myself, I am now currently teaching full-time at a college (chemistry/math), so if you need help with the algebra, pm me......
