59/60 Desoto Question

Hi  Guys...I was chatting with a fellow the other day who  has an old Desoto , I'm not positive of the year, 59/60 ?........ he mentioned it has a button in the end of the shifter handle similar to the Tow/Haul buttons on the newer vehicles...He had asked me if I knew what this button was for...I'm not a Desoto guy so I thought I'd ask the fellows who might know, any info might help...I tried Google ....No help...Thanks for your replies  in advance

By 56 the shifter was the dash mount push button style (assuming it's an automatic).
