68 Charger Dash Light Problem

I have noticed that with my dash lights on, the wad of wires that come out of the dash light dial switch are getting real hot. Also if I wiggle the bundle of wires the dash lights sometime go on and off.

The switch is my 2nd one. I bought it used. With the switch dialed down to off there is no heat in the wires.

Before I had this switch I had bypassed the switch and had the gauge lights on all the time. I forgot how I did this.

Is this likely the switch? The dimmer function works.

If I could bypass the switch again I could see if the wires still heat up.

Any suggestions/knowledge are welcome

If it's like my 70's it dims and just past high (dim) it has a "bump" that turns on the dome light also.(if I remember right the bump feeds a ground) I ran with mine jumped for years.

I changed out the bulbs from original 158 s to 194 .And bypassed the roll switch .You never need to lower dash lights
